It makes you consider something else… For one moment, pretend that you cannot actually think logically and that christianity may actually be right. Here me out… What if Jesus or Mary REALLY DID show themselves to someone? Perhaps Mrs De Menezes… or me… or yourself! Imagine the real cosmic jewish zombie himself revealed himself to a member of the public. Chances are, the Church would probably do the same and not accept it. Now THAT would be irony.
