THIS is just … well …  bizarre? Surreal? Plain unbelievable?

Bill Donohue, the big chief over at the Catholic League in the US, has issued a complaint against Fox’s “Family Guy” for – wait for it – slandering GAY PRIESTS!

That, surely, is the Vatican’s job.

A statement issued by the CL this week declares:

In the October 19 episode of Fox’s ‘Family Guy’, characters Brian (the family dog) and Stewie (the family child) travel in a time machine to rescue Mort Goldman (a Jewish family-friend) from the Nazi invasion of Poland. After Brian and Stewie disguise Mort as a priest to get him out of the country, a Nazi officer asks Mort:

Brian and Stewie

Brian and Stewie

Are you sure you’re a real priest?

Stewie replies:

Yeah, yeah, I can vouch for him, he’s real. He’s molested me many, many times.

Said Catholic League President Bill Donohue:

…. While it is true that most of the molesters in the Catholic clergy have been gay, most gay priests are not molesters.

A disturbing pattern has emerged on ‘Family Guy.’ On at least three occasions, it has mocked the Eucharist, and now it is targeting gay priests. The brains behind these assaults is Seth MacFarlane. He is not only the show’s creator, he is a big Barack Obama supporter … [but] it is not clear why an Obama fan would find it necessary to beat up on gay priests. After all, Obama’s running mate, Joe Biden, just yesterday said he is against Proposition 8, the California resolution that would limit marriage to a man and a woman. Thus did he lay down stakes with the radical gay community.

Whatever the motive, the juvenile scripts that MacFarlane is associated with could benefit from some fresh material. Make that material that doesn’t bash Catholicism, as well.

  1. Wow! I’m a big fan of Family Guy, and it’s great to hear that it’s pissed off that moronic bigot Donohue. Even here in little old England he is becoming a byword for narrow minded ideological cant. (And yes, I did spell ‘cant’ correctly, one must maintain standards.) Go Stewie and Brian! Big ups to the Quahog Posse.

  2. The Catholic Church needs the piss taken out of it. Most of the words said in jest are true.

I wish that the words and dictates of the Catholic Church were so funny and as aesily dismissed as a cartoon. Can’t write a cartoon about the effect of Papal dictates on poor people and women and thir world aids victims. Catholic church is not funny it is sick. So much suffering and as there is no God no nice happy ending at the end either.

As a woman I find nothing fummy in the catholic church or most basic religions.

Long live Father Ted – The Truth

  3. You could say Catholic ‘truth’ is funnier than Catholic ‘fiction’.
Tell you what, if Bill Donohue is as good a Catholic as he says he’d be willing to share his ‘wisdom’ with the world for nothing. So why not ask Fox to give him his own series? It would be cheap and (unintentionally) hilarious!

  4. Mybe the CC forgot to read the bible or they plan on changing it’s scripture.

  5. “…. While it is true that most of the molesters in the Catholic clergy have been gay, most gay priests are not molesters.”

So apparently #(Catholic Clergy) > #(Gay Priests) > #(Gay Priest Molestors) > 0. Never would have guessed it.

And now, to paraphrase and add my personal commentary.

“An unsurprising pattern has emerged on ‘Family Guy.’, a show known for making fun of everyone and everything. On at least three occasions, it has mocked my strange beliefs in superstitions, and now it is targeting gay priests, whom I will defend with my life but only because they are priests… all other homosexuals are evil. The brains behind these assaults is Seth MacFarlane. He is not only the show’s creator, he is a big Barack Obama supporter, which just proves he must be evil. … [but] it is not clear why an Obama fan would find it necessary to beat up on gay priests (except that it’s a show that mocks everyone.) After all, Obama’s running mate, Joe Biden, just yesterday said he is against Proposition 8, the California resolution that would limit marriage to a man and a woman. Thus did he lay down stakes (???) with the ordinary gay people, just not gay priests who can’t marry anyway or the Gay priest molestors, who can’t marry their victims until they reach the age of 18.

Whatever the motive, the juvenile scripts that MacFarlane is associated with could benefit from some fresh material from me. Make that material that doesn’t bash Catholicism, as well, because I clearly have an undeveloped sense of humor.”

Honestly, the verbal gymnastics he has to go through to defend gay priests and molestors while simultaneously attacking the gay community at large. Hilarious!(But not as hilarious as Family Guy!)

  6. Bill Donohue wants to perpetuate the “gay = child molester” stereotype yet have a hissy fit because a cartoon takes a stab at the well documented rash of child abuse by clergy? Fark him.
