A WOMAN raised as a liberal Catholic, and her husband, who describes himself as “somewhat anti-religious”, have together created Blasphemy: An Unholy Trinity of Musical Comedies which has just opened in New York at the Bartell Theatre.blasphemy

The team are Catherine Capellaro and Andrew Rohn  – and their show is sure to raise the hackles of Christian fundamentalist who rarely, if ever, like to see folk make fun of their beliefs.

Rohn wrote the music and Capellaro the words for the three plays that make up the show -Rapture, Purgatory and Paradise.

Said Capellaro:

We think that musicals should be about things that matter. We want to write musicals that challenge people. We’ve done two major anti-corporate musicals, and we may have more in us.

But it’s really fun to veer off a little bit and look at another issue that so affects every facet of our lives right now -people’s spiritual beliefs and the corruption of right-wing Christianity and fundamentalism.

You can get a flavour of the show here.
