AN attractive 16-year-old Muslim teenager was stabbed 23 times by her elder brother “to protect the family’s honour” after he tricked her into meeting him at a McDonald’s burger bar car park in Hamburg, Germany.
Mosal Obeidi, yet another victim of Islamic insanity
Dark-haired Morsal Obeidi died as a result of the brutal attack last May. She was the daughter of an Afghan jet fighter pilot who fled the country after the Taleban came to power. Together with his wife and five children the father settled in Hamburg in 1994 where Morsal grew up.
But although she had no problems adjusting to life in a European city, her brother Ahmad, 24, continually got in to trouble with police, notching up 30 convictions for assault and burglary. He also attacked a man with a knife after a drunken night out.
According to this report, at his trial for murder, in which Ahmad continually broke down in tears in front of the judge and jury, the court was told that Morsal liked listening to Western music and wearing make up. She also wore mini-skirts and tight jeans and enjoyed going out to discos with pals she met at school.
But Ahmad wanted her to wear a veil and go to a mosque for daily prayers. Although he enjoyed going out drinking with his friends, Ahmad did not think it was suitable for his sister to do the same.
Public prosecutor Boris Bochnick told the court that in the months leading up to the murder Ahmad had kicked Morsal several times, hit her and also threatened her with a knife.
He said:
The accused told his young sister to come to the parking lot at around 11pm on May 15 2008, where he asked her if she worked as a prostitute. He thought her reply was ‘rubbish’ and started to viciously attack her with a knife without warning.
Keep fit-fanatic Ahmad rammed a seven-inch long knife into his sister’s body 23 times — in her stomach, backside, arms, legs, heart and lungs. Morsal bled to death at the scene of the crime.
The court was told Morsal Obeidi tried to lead the kind of life she believed was correct and behave typically like the other teenage girls in her school. She wanted to become integrated in to the society in which she lived.
Although her brother has pleaded guilty to killing her, his defence is that he did not plan it. It happened on the spur of the moment and was an “honour” killing. If the jury agrees it could make the difference between a guilty verdict of manslaughter or murder.

first, it doesn’t matter whether she was pretty or not … she was brutally stabbed to death. that should be enough to make people concerned about her. would be care any less if she wasn’t pretty?
and second, this is oh so sad. i think that real change will only come about when islamic countries realize that honour killers are not martyrs, but are murderers. but in the meantime the rest of the civilized world must be steadfast in our hatred of such practices.

How dare this veneous individual pass the blame onto her by declaring it an honour killing. The judge needs to make the right decision and rule against this excuse, send this scum away for a long time and send a message. The rest of the EU should take note of this case too.
I’m amazed it isn’t being reported in the UK, but then it might hurt the feelings of the people that belong the same death cult as this abmonible wretch.

This reminds me of the Muslim father who “honour killed” his daughter because she fell in love with a British soldier. The Bible directs the killing of women who are not virgins on their wedding night, disobedient children, adulterers, “witches”, gays, non-believers and countless others. Fortunatley the people of Bob’s ilk have at least decided to cherry-pick what bits of the bible to beleive. You probably wouldn’t find him supporting slavery, for instance, but there it is in the scripture. Are there really moderate Muslims? I keep asking, in the hope that one might just turn up here and put a case for Islam as a potentially healthy phenomenon in the West. The impression I get is that the moderate Muslims are somehow ashamed of being moderate. The fundamentalists have a sufficient grip on the perception of what it means to be Muslim that it becomes the norm. The moderates have this idea of “western = evil” but it is in the most case overridden by their innate humanity.
Thankfully the reverse is true in Christianity. Enlightenment is a sufficiently old concept in the west that the Christians have assimilated a reasonable proportion into their main stream traditions (western liberalism).

MCB won’t say anything, because the truth is that honour killing is a cultural issue, and one practised, I’m sorry to point out, by non-Muslims from the region. Also, to honour them, I should also point out that there are male victims of hk. Men killed because of their clothes or the fact that they’re listening to Western music or have spiky hair or a girlfriend; in addition, many people are killed under the banner of hk where the real motive was their freethought (ie, leaving the family religion / being atheists) or financial (to take control of their inheritance).
Anyway, Muslim special interest groups feel that they bear no special responsibility for speaking out against the practise, since it does happen in other religious communities. It doesn’t square up with Islamic ideals about looking out for others, but then again, neither does Christian silence about hk. All in all, I’d say both groups indulge in hypocritical silence when it comes to violence against women and children in the MENA and SEA regions. Well, most of us do, really.
Despite the fact that Islam is a ridiculous, anti-modern religion – and I should know, I used to be a Muslim – it actually does not condone these crimes. There isn’t anything in any form of Shariah that allows for this sort of thing. Shariah allows for a lot of horrible things, but this isn’t one of them. One challenge we need to put to Muslims is that if Islam is so transforming and wonderful, then why hasn’t it been able to eradicate this problem that’s been around for centuries before Islam? [Since Muslims like to say that the dawn of Islam eradicated the societal problems of the pre-Islamic cultures].
Oh, and why more Muslims don’t speak out – the same reason Christians, Druize, Yazidis, and others from the same region don’t. They are afraid. There are people who do campaign against hk, mainly secular Muslims like Rana Husseini, but for the most part, people who speak out against hk receive death threats from the more conservative / tribal types. And unfortunately, death threats are quite effective in shutting people up.

Victoria, I agree that Newspaniard’s remark was offensive. But I strongly disagree that the description of Mosal was sexist. I see nothing at all objectionable in describing people as “attractive” or “pretty” if they are female, or “hunky” or “handsome” if they are male; or “cute” or “cuddly” if we happen to be speaking of rabbits or kittens.
I am very careful to ensure that REAL sexist language never finds its way into the posts on this blog – and if readers occasionally overstep the mark with their comments they deserve to be slapped down, as you have done.
