Well, I just don’t see her attractiveness as in any way relevant to the story, and in fairness you don’t often see a headline like ‘Hunky young man was brutally murdered’.

Victoria, I agree that Newspaniard’s remark was offensive. But I strongly disagree that the description of Mosal was sexist. I see nothing at all objectionable in describing people as “attractive” or “pretty” if they are female, or “hunky” or “handsome” if they are male; or “cute” or “cuddly” if we happen to be speaking of rabbits or kittens.

I am very careful to ensure that REAL sexist language never finds its way into the posts on this blog – and if readers occasionally overstep the mark with their comments they deserve to be slapped down, as you have done.

@ Newspaniard and Remigius: consider yourself reprimanded. Three strikes and you join Bob on the naughty step!

Uh – why did you need to say she was ‘attractive’ – as if that somehow makes her death more tragic…

You guys are supposed to be the good liberal progressives – remember?! This is not the first time I’ve seen overt sexism on this site (note the Fata Ames article in which one commenter told a woman sueing for sex discrimination to ‘get your tits out’). I just thought I’d raise it, because otherwise, I love this site, but the sexism really lets the side down.

Does Germany have trial by jury? I thought it’s an Anglo-Saxon thing.

In any case, hope this man goes down *hard*. Honor killing is an archaic, barbaric Middle Eastern custom, and having been in the West for years and having had more than his fair share of run-ins with the law, Ahmad surely can’t claim ignorance of the norms of his adoptive country.

How can it be spur-of-the-moment when he has been chronically abusing his sister too?
