ATHEIST comedy duo The Heresy Project have been forced to rename their show, Kill Your God, by the organisers of the Leicester Comedy Festival. The show, scheduled to be staged in March, will now be called Comedy for the Godless.

The organizers were also offended by the blurb for the show, and demanded  that it be rewritten. The original wording was:

Are you a Judaist, a Christian or a practitioner of Islam? The The Heresy Project is here for you. Our mission is to eradicate all religious persecution once and for all by the simple process of eradicating all religion.

It continues:

While pacifist atheists such as Oxford Professor Richard Dawkins are busy stating ‘such hostility as I or other atheists occasionally voice towards religion is limited to words. I am not going to bomb anybody’, The Heresy Project asks the important questions, like ‘why not?’

However:

Due to a copy and paste error, the original blurb, albeit accompanied by the revised show title, snuck past the printers and into the official programme.

Awww! What a shame!

The Heresy Project was named by The Scotsman as one of the highlights of the 2008 Glasgow International Comedy Festival. It said the show:

Makes Richard Dawkins look like the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The renamed show can be seen at the 2009 Leicester Comedy Festival on
February 14.

No objections to Kill Your God were made by the organizers of the 2009 Glasgow International Comedy Festival, nor the 2009 Brighton Fringe. The show is in Glasgow on March 21, and in Brighton on May 9.

  1. Does anyone know if this logo is available as a t-shirt?

  2. If it isn’t Tony, the Heresy Project is losing out on a great opportunity. I would certainly wear one!

  3. I’ll have two of them please !!! You know why Leicester got upset…it’s rub-butter central !

  4. Why is it always the rational ones who have to change to accommodate loonies? I for one find the word Islam offensive, what with its emphasis on submission and loss of will.

Could they perhaps change their name to something more befitting such as Collective Psychosis?

I’ll have a couple of t-shirts too Barry. Extra large and made of Kevlar.

  5. Peter T. Rub-butter!

Have you been watching ‘Last Tango’ again?

  6. We’re still working on t-shirts but they are in the pipe line.
When they’e ready we’ll let ‘The Freethinker’ know and post on http://www.heresycomedy.com

  7. I think you can still get that shirt/badge, etc. from evolvefish.com/index.html

Anyway, isn’t the show title of good religious origin? I thought it was a pun on one of those Zen things – something about ‘if you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him’

  8. The Heresy Project are on’t toob.

  9. Stu: that’s just good anti-Zombie sense.

  10. Meanwhile, Ratty still gets away with allowing his Jew baiting, Holocaust denying bishops back in the fold.

I thought Ratty was infalliable on matters of “faith and morals” when he spoke ex cathedra?

  11. So people have to avoid hurting the feelings of people who say that they deserve to go to hell to be tortured forever?
