IS it something in the water that produces wackjobs like Gordon James Klingenschmitt?
A while back, Klingenschmitt, a former Navy chaplain – discharged from the US Navy in 2007 after facing a court-martial for inappropriate praying while in uniform – called on supporters of his Pray in Jesus’ Name movement to launch “imprecatory” prayers against two prominent American activists, Barry W Lynn and Mikey Weinstein.
For those of you not versed in the finer points of extreme right-wing theology, imprecatory prayers are prayers that bad things will happen to your enemies – things like death, loss of income, loss of property, etc.
Klingenschmitt’s prayer reads:
Almighty God, today we pray imprecatory prayers from Psalm 109 against the enemies of religious liberty, including Barry Lynn and Mikey Weinstein, who recently issued a press release attacking me personally.
God, do not remain silent, for wicked men surround me and tell lies about me. We bless them, but they curse us. Therefore, find them guilty, not me. Let their days be few, and replace them with godly people. Plunder their fields and seize their assets. Cut off their descendants. And remember their sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
So what was it that soooo got up this silly tit’s nose?
Well, Lynn, of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and Weinstein, who heads the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, had the cheek to point out that that posturing Jesus junkie Klingenschmitt still refers to himself as a “chaplain” – which he is not – and that his site shows him in naval uniform, which he in no longer entitled to wear.

'Oh Lord, kill the godless infidel - or deliver them a mighty bitch-slap!
According to AU, the two atheists wrote to Navy officials, accusing Klingenschmitt of attempting to mislead people.
AU subsequently received an e-mail from the Judge Advocate General’s Office stating:
The Administrative Law Division, Office of the Judge Advocate General will contact Mr Klingenschmitt and inform him that, absent an appropriate disclaimer in his correspondence, use of the photograph depicting him in a naval uniform may, in fact, be contrary to federal law.
Klingenschmitt then posted this hysterical disclaimer on his site, egotistically referring to himself in the third person.
The views of former Navy Chaplain Klingenschmitt do not represent the views of the US Navy. The picture of Chaplain Klingenschmitt in uniform is a picture of his former self, taken while he was serving on active duty, therefore he was not impersonating an officer, he actually WAS an officer when the photo was taken (Duh).
Chaps (sic) became famous for praying “in Jesus name” in uniform (and Congress vindicated his right to do so), so he reserves the right to publicize his own former identity. He remains endorsed and ordained today as “Chaplain and Evangelist to America” by his civilian ordaining denomination, the Chaplaincy of Full Gospel Churches, so Chaplain remains his valid title.
And Barry Lynn and Mikey Weinstein are bone-heads.

He looks as egotistical as he sounds. At least he realises that Christianity is based upon hatred of other instead of the mis-conception everyone has that it is based on love.
On a side note, there is a public holday in Denmark today called Prayer Day. Why can't the UK gov gives us a day of to celebrate our ability to talk to ourselves too?

What a douche.

One would think an omniscient and omnipotent being would being would be able to look after themselves… besides, praying for god to hurt your enemies seems hypocritical for one who is supposed to believe that the meek will inherit the world.

To The Freethinker(s),
While you are trying your very best in lambasting the faith of Christianity, I wonder what's your stance on Islamicization?
I can't be wrong but aside from the bloodshed crusade in the history I can hardly recall any other such calling in Christianity while the Muslims are plotting their Allah-consented slaughtering of infidels every now and then. Back home, even my freedom to enjoy a delicious pork cuisine is questioned.
While my rights to enjoy pork is constantly questioned and revoked at all costs, it seems to be the most honourable thing among the Muslims to abuse and prosecute the infidels.
Islam is DISGUSTING! How could eating pork be sinful when marrying 10 women including those who are underaged is lawful and Allah-destined?! Suck my w_lly !!

The Christian Bible also demands that followers do not eat Pork.
Leviticus: "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you".
It's just that most Christians fail to follow the Word of God unless it suits them.

We assure you that Islam gets off no less lightly than Christianity on this blog. Just do a search on "Islam" or "Muslim" and you will find dozens of posts concerning this ghastly religion.

Ferror Herwanto – if that is your real name… – we don't descriminate here: EVERY STUPID RELIGION is a target for our attention. Islam has appalling beliefs – they are all as ignorant of the world of reality as eachother.
And you have my genuine and heartfelt sincere sympathies that you can't have a bacon sandwich when you feel like it. That is simply inhumane.

FYI, niether the Rev.(!) Barry Lynn nor Mikey Weinstein are atheists, just allies in the fight for separation of church and state.
Lynn:

"Americans United’s current executive director, the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, is a United Church of Christ minister as well as an attorney long active on behalf of civil liberties."
Weinstein:

"Mikey was named one of the 50 most influential Jews in America by the Forward, one of the nation’s preeminent Jewish publications. "

Ever hear the song from the sixties called "Sky Pilot"? Eric Burden and the Animals. A grand testimonial to how religion sells the idea of "god is on our side" and fuels the tides of war. As if there weren't enough graves filled by one god or another. Of course everyone eventually dies anyway, so really all those gravestones are just people who never got a chance to live their dream. And for what?
To either support or resist some religion, or political ideal, or greed for power. My point is, even if you can take religion out of the equation, we still have to deal with what we are as a species. Atheism is not the answer to the human condition, but freethought is.

There`s an interesting quotation from Martin Luther on http://thebeattitude.com for 7th May, where he claims to have worked himself up to a frenzy of hatred for his enemies, in order to get into the right frame of mind for a session at "The Throne of Grace"! Nice man!!
