SHE’s back, folks – and she’s madder than a wasp in a jar!

[ADDAMS] Family Values campaigner Andrea Minichiello Williams – barrister, founder of the Christian Legal Centre, and possible inspiration for the phrase “a bulldog chewing on nettles” – is on the warpath again.

Jesus junkie Andrea Minichiello Williams is off on another crusade

Jesus junkie Andrea Minichiello Williams is off on another crusade

This time it’s the upcoming Coroners and Justice Bill that’s upset the batty old bigot. According to this report, she and her deranged cohorts are claiming that the Bill – likely to be debated in the House of Lords next week – poses:

An immediate threat to sanctity of life and freedom of speech.

And the CLC has launched an online petition calling on the Government to:

Scrap part of a Bill which could ban Christians voicing traditional views on sexuality.

The CLC website also announces a grand spiritual circle jerk … er… prayerfest, which will take place on  Monday, June 22, to beseech God and the Government to change clause 61, “which eliminates a safeguard on freedom of speech”. Titter ye not – they’re calling it a Prayer for Life and Liberty.

There has scarcely been a time when our rulers, MPs and Peers needed our prayers more than now. The political system as we know it is falling apart, and dangerous, anti-Christian legislation is a step away from becoming law. It has crept in under the radar as the nation is distracted by the economic, expenses and election crises.

So just what is it about Clause 61 that’s so infuriated the zealots? According to Williams:

It could prevent any Christian openly stating a conservative reading of the Bible’s views on homosexual practise and even marriage.

She predicts that the removal of the free speech protection clause currently within  sexual orientation hatred legislation – which preserves the right to discuss, criticise and urge abstinence from certain forms of sexual conduct – will:

Have devastating consequences for Christian witness and integrity in the UK. Church leaders and individual Christians answering questions about their faith could well find themselves the subject of a police investigation and arrest just for speaking and living according to the Bible’s teaching on sexuality and marriage.

What’s more, the Bill could open the door to assisted suicide.

But the Liberal Democrat peer Lord Lester, a committed human rights activist, believes the government is right to remove the safeguard.

To attack someone because they’re gay, because of their humanity, something they are born with, is similar to attacking someone because of their ethnicity. Therefore it is closer to race hate than it is to religious hate and therefore I think the government is right.

He added:

Religious people have complete rights to free speech and to criticise gay practices -  just as gay people have to criticise religion. There is no threat to free speech in the way that I can see it is defined.

  1. The Ozzy Osbourne look-alike strikes again. Why is it these morons are so obsessed with sex – aren’t they getting any? I hope the C & J bill goes through without interference.

  2. I know that judging others purely based on outward appearence is not something to be encouraged, but hey, if they can't be bothered to show the same compassion and tolerance to the LGBT community then, quite frankly, eff you, you arse ugly man-a-like.
Would I say it to her face? Probably not, she looks like she could tear a bus in half with her eyes.

  3. While I believe in this blog's general point of view, there are actually a LOT of things wrong with the bill including Clause 49, which effectively controls what an artist can draw in their own home. Please read the WHOLE bill, as it is a typically all-encompassing and a poorly written piece of legislation (as you'd expect from the current incumbent government.) Angela_K – Please get ALL the facts before you wish for the bill to be passed "without interference". It's more pernicious than you might imagine. For more details check out: http://www.comicalliance.org.uk/ for more details on how the bill REALLY affects freedom of speech.

  4. It's interesting that in the UK we don't actually have freedom of speech. We can say what we want but there are laws that make us face the consequences of what we say. If people are likely to be propelled into wrongdoing then we can be prosecuted for instigating that action. It works well!

  5. Let's just stop with all this praying and lets start wishing upon a star. Scrap that idea. It will just start an arguement on which star is best at granting wishes.

  6. Hey, Barry, you need to watch this one. She looks like a witch on heat. Don't get too close. Get a load of those dark rimmed eyes – lack of sleep there – and that red gash of her drooping lower lip. Nasty.

  7. I would though… :o )

  8. Don't talk about red gashes – I've already got the hots for disciplinarian women!

    Quote for the day:

Youngman Grand – "Can't we settle our differences amicably?"
Sir Guy Grand – "No, son, no. Not while there's a cathedral standing."

    – Ringo & Peter Sellers in the Magic Christian – best film ever!

Oh – And I also just got a job in a religious institution!!!! LOL

  9. My problem with these people is that they can't just have their so called Christian values and do their best to live by them, no they have to do their best to ensure that every one else has to live by them as well. Any attempt at preventing them from imposing their values on other people results in them claiming to be persecuted.

The upside is that their actions alienate ordinary people and continue to make their little cult less and less popular.

  10. Shows how scared they are though, doesn`t it? In fact they`re in a state of blind panic, as they see all their power and influence draining away (at last!), like Count Dracula as the Sun begins to rise!!

  11. You're right, barriejohn. It's a power game and they've been losing it for years. Sunday trading, civil partnerships, IVF – Xians have opposed so many things and always insisted it would be the End of Civilisation if they didn't get their way. They're always on the way to fight in yet another dirty little last ditch. And they always lose. It's great! One of the few really good things about this country is that it's very secular and becoming more so.

  12. Come to think of it – that`s what she looks like, doesn`t she?

  13. Are there any counter-peitions to oppose the CLC's efforts?

  14. To quote Charlie Sheen in Ferris Bueller's Day Off;

"You wear too much eye makeup. My sister wears too much. People think she's a whore. "

  15. Like all other legislation enacted or proposed under this government, this is drafted stupidly, incompetently and counter-productively. There is a difference between stating opinions, however offensive, and attacking individuals. She may not grasp this difference, but neither does the government, or it seems some posters here.
Case in point: antisemitic hate-speech is rife in the UK, but is tolerated because it's fashionable, and – or so it is claimed – it does not target or endanger individuals. So why single out gays for special protection? Because they are a cause du jour, as are Muslims. It has nothing to do with a genuine liberal mindset, which this totalitarian government wouldn't recognise if it bit its collective arse.

  16. I have to agree, there should be no special protection for gays or indeed anyone, but in a fair society there should be equality. If the religious want to use their delusions to criticise people like me then I should be free to criticise the religious and their beliefs; and that includes muslims who seem to have special protection under our present Government

  17. In what way are gay people in Britain "singled out for special protection", I would like to know? Because it is illegal to discriminate against them on the grounds of their sexual orientation? That is a very strange form of "special protection", I would have thought! Your allegation is outrageous!!

  18. You`re talking about Utopia, Angela-K! Muslims are totally deluded, but of course they should be allowed to believe what they wish. However, inciting others to engage in the persecution of minorities in society, which is closely allied to the physical abuse of those minorities, cannot be tolerated. We`re not talking about "criticism" here! Likewise, however much we may object to their views, Muslims should be protected from discrimination purely on the grounds of their religious belief.

  19. As much as I dislike th fundies, I strongly agree that free speech protection is essential, even for people whose position we oppose.

Censorship has a nasty habit of coming around to bite you. Once it’s enabled it winds up becoming a tool in ways that the original framers never intended, and it is totally naive to assume that it will only be used to prevent speech we find offensive or dangerous.

Now I live across the pond, where free speech is a bit more strongly enshrined (if not always in practice), and I am glad for that as I see our British and European friends slipping further and further into government controlled correct-speak.

[there are many books in the library which should be banned... but no one knows which ones they are]

  20. First, Andrea has had breast cancer, so comments about her person are unfair.
Second, unfortunately on becoming a religious fundamentalist and only referring to those parts of the bible to support her beliefs, she has become prejudice, intolerant and obsessed. She refuses to enter into a conversation and doesn't care whose feelings she hurts. It very sad that someone as intelligent as her promotes hatred in the name of christianity.

  21. Now Williams is comparing the equality laws proposed for the EU as social genocide. She wants to continue her discrimination and make money for her organisation. She is turning thousands from the church because of her intolerance and desire to attack one section of society while ignoring her own prejudices.

  22. Andrea Minichiello Williams wants £20,000 a month for her organisation to bad mouth and discriminate. No wonder main stream organisation are calling her the eccentric fringe. CCFON is nothing but a fraud.

  23. The bigoted religious fruitcake is having another swipe at gay people and trying to impose her will on others by destroying equality and perpetuating her crazy ideas. It’s time she shut up and stop her silly rantings. Andrea Minichiello Williams should put a sock in it for the good of mankind.

  24. I find it sad to read the comments here. If you are atheists and have any good to contribute to the world, this attack of a fellow human being whether you agree with her views or not does nothing for your cause. I happen to be a Christian who agrees with much of what Andrea says because she bases her views on biblical teaching. This makes me (and Andrea) no more fundamentalist than an atheist. If you don’t like the Christian view you attack it in a nasty, hateful way, why can’t you simply disagree in a mature fashion? As for Angela K’s comment about being obsessed with sex, has she seen what’s going on around her lately? I would say it is non- Christians who are obsessed with sex and enjoying it much less as a result!

  25. As someone who knows Andrea, it’s really sad to see the narrow minded way you’ve portrayed her here. But it’s what i’m come to expect from so called Free Thinking, which is not so free when you really dig into it.

  26. I only googled Andrea Minchiello because I saw her name in the newspaper after the recent “Nurse wearing a crucifix at work” case.

I knew Andrea well when we were at school together in Weymouth.

Whilst she was Christian at the time, and cared passionately about the things she cared about, she wasn’t in your face and was tolerant of other views. I haven’t seen her for many years but I doubt whether this has changed.

So listen to the views, argue back (if that’s your bag), but try to leave aside the personal insults.

    Jon – (non-Christian, non-LBTG, non-extreme)

  27. Having met Andrea just recently, and as a Christian believer myself, i find it hard to grasp that you people are calling her narrow minded, obsessed etc yet again….look at some of the comments you have written about her. more to the point, most of the comments are personal attacks on her and not just her views. if you disagree with her then fine, but she has a freedom to speak just as much as you do to say she is wrong.
She is a very warm hearted, compassionate woman, who is wanting to do best by everyone and who is passionate about her faith…and so she should be.

  28. “She is a very warm hearted, compassionate woman”…

who just happens to be an anti-gay bigot who doesn’t care that the views she propagates and attempts to force on the rest of society drive young gay people to suicide and fertilise the soil in which anti-gay violence flourishes.

Yeah – no-one’s totally evil. But you still call them out on the areas where they are.

For the record, I believe conservative Christians should be allowed to preach their views on homosexuality. Each time they do, it provides an opportunity for them to be shot down with reasoned argument.

  29. I’ve known Andrea for over 20 years, and regard her as a good friend. I don’t agree with her religious views. I certainly don’t agree with her reported views on homosexuality. However, for what it’s worth I’ll say this : she believes passionately, and far from being hate filled she is only trying to save your souls. That’s her “god given” duty, and because it’s a duty she can’t give it up. You may not believe you have a soul to save, but she thinks you do. “Bad-mouth queers”? You’ve got her wrong, folks. She does care, it’s just that her belief system is different to yours and mine.
