A GYM I attended regularly around four years ago acquired a new member – a young Muslim who quickly established himself as the resident sex pest. He would chat up female members, and lick his lips suggestively while staring fixedly at their boobs.
Several times he sidled up to me and asked:
Well, what do you think of that one?
Finally I snapped, saying:
I’m not here to ogle women, I’m here to work out.
To which he replied:
Are you queer or something?
I said, yeah, whatever … and turned back to the weights.
A look of naked hostility sprang into his eyes, and from that moment on he made a point of spraying all the gym apparatus I had used with an antiseptic spray before using the equipment himself.

Things came to a head when I saw him hogging a piece of equipment I was waiting impatiently to work out on. He was just sitting on it, gazing at the fit flanks of a young woman doing stretches. So I politely said to him:
Piss or get off the goddamn pot!
He responded by telling me that he was tired, that he had no energy due to the fact that it was Ramadan, and he was fasting,
I lost all patience and told him that if he was so thick as to engage in some daft religious ritual, he should stay away from the gym – whereupon he accused me of being anti-Islamic. I did not deny it. I said I was an atheist, that I had no time for ANY religion, and if he didn’t like it he could time his sessions for when I wasn’t there.
Irritatingly, he then started dogging my footsteps, aping all my routines and trying, with bulging eyes – but with very little success – to match the weights I was hefting. I warned him that he would injure himself. I was at least 35 years older than the guy, and had been strenuously working out for seven years. At that time I was fitter than I had ever been in my life.
But he was apparently as deaf as he was stupid. One morning I got up from the bench where I was pressing a phenomenally heavy barbell to get a drink of water.
While my back was turned, in a shocking breach of gym etiquette, he nipped in, quickly disinfected the bench, and – with a defiant look in my direction – just managed to clear the bar from its rack. It dropped like a boulder onto his chest, and pinned him down like a bug. He went white and began hyperventilating. I lunged forward to lift the bar off him, helped him to the reception desk and told the gym supervisor precisely how the little twat had almost got himself killed.
I was reminded of my run-in with the creepy little rug-butter when Barriejohn, who regularly comments on this blog, alerted me to a report of a schoolteacher in East London who was also judged “unclean” – in this instance by Muslim pupils who took offence over the fact that he was a Christian.
Nicholas Kafouris
In 2006, Nicholas Kafouris, a teacher at Bigland Green Primary School in Tower Hamlets brushed against a boy while giving him a book.
He said rather brusquely to me, Don’t touch me, you’re a Christian.
Kafouris subsequently lost his £30,000-a-year post because he would not tolerate the ‘openly racist’ behaviour of pupils as young as eight, and he is now taking the school, its headmistress and assistant head to an employment tribunal where he will claim he was forced out after highlighting the rise in racism among pupils.
He said the predominantly Muslim youngsters openly praised Islamic extremists in class, and hailed the September 11 terrorists as “heroes and martyrs”.
Later that year, he said children aged eight and nine in his class praised the suicide bombers in the 9/11 attacks.
In late November and December 2006, many various unacceptable and openly racist, anti-Semitic and anti-Christian remarks were being made by many and various children in Year 4.
These included, ‘We want to be Islamic bombers when we grow up’, ‘the Twin Towers bombers are heroes and martyrs’, ‘we hate the Jews’ and ‘we hate the Christians’.
And in January 2007, he claims some pupils “expressed delight” that a child had died when a wall collapsed on him in London.
When asked why, he said one of the children replied: “Because he’s English.”
The following month, during a religious education lesson about Jonah and the whale, he claims one of the pupils asked if Jonah was a Jew, before shouting:
I hate the Jews, they’re our enemies.
Greek-born Kafouris, 40, taught for more than ten years at the school, where according to the most recent Ofsted report “almost all” the 465 pupils are from ethnic minorities and a vast proportion do not speak English as a first language.

I'm surprised that the drooling plonker didn't end up in trouble long before his Wily E Coyote squish (at least being oxygen-starved might have increased his IQ by a few points) Weight training on an empty stomach, while also unable to eat/drink after the workout, is pointless and quite dangerous.

I should point out that complaint was made against me for "bullying" and "religious hatred." Not by the Muslim, but by a third party who overheard the exchange, and who told me that the youngster should be "admired" for his efforts in the gym while meeting his religious commitments. As a result I was severely reprimanded by the management.

Oh. and I find it curious that a staunch atheist links to Christian/Jewish sites just because they're anti-Islam. Does that mean you'd link to Muslim sites because they're anti-Christian?
Islamophobia is definitely an overused term, and Islam should be criticised like all other religions, but I can safely say that you and your commenting ilk are Islamophobes.

Wow, i am a muslim and reading the comments above i have to say i feel sorry for you people, you seem to label people with negative stereotypical views just because of a bad experience with a few, whereas the majority are nothing like this.

You’re miles wide of the elements raised in the text – particularly in Kafouris’s case, being yet another victim of the culture of Islamomania which runs far deeper than a few indoctrinated guttersnipes bestowing Middle Age virtues from the desert upon the Christian subjects of the realm. Put your own house in order and the views you observe will vanish.

I actually went to that school during the 90′s, and nichoas was one of my teachers during my time. He was a lovely man and to be honest things like that had never happened when I was there. Nicholas was very much liked by the pupils, who were all muslims by the way. But clearly most of the people here are hold anti islamic viws based on the activities of the minority. You mentioned something about english not being the first language for these kids, wot on earth has that got to do with anything? These kids speak english when its appropriate and speak their other language when theyre at home in the privacy of their own home. It doesnt mean they cant speak english well, it doesnt mean anything. I have had some bad experiences with people giving me racist attitude however I do not believe all english people are racist or harbour racist views. I look at people individually and based my judgment on who they are.
