AN Islamic court in Malaysia has ordered the flogging of a Muslim model after she confessed to drinking beer at a nightclub in Kuala Lupur.
Don't try this in Malaysia, ladies!
Kartika Sari Sewi Shu-karno, 32, a part-time model, pleaded guilty of having a beer in a nightclub last year.
According to this report, the Shariah High Court yesterday sentenced her to six strokes of the cane, and further ordered her to pay a $1,400 fine.
Said Judge Datuk Abdul Rahman Yunus:
The court reached the judgment after the accused pleaded guilty. We feel the sentence is fair after going through the prosecution’s argument, and since the cane is provided for in the law.
He added the accused could face a three-year jail term if she failed to pay the fine.
The caning is to be carried out by federal prison authorities.

It had to be a woman, didn't it? And arrested by the "religious police" as well! I've been reading the comments about this on other sites, and they are saying that Muslim MEN in Malaysia are drinking quite openly without fear of prosecution, and also smoking tobacco and other substances which are expressly forbidden. This doesn't surprise me one little bit, as my friend worked for some years in Saudi Arabia, another country where alcohol is "strictly forbidden" – hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally am inclined to think these two are related. The same people who think that sadism must be about wanting to do harm (as opposed to, say, nurturing a natural urge to be nice to people who are in pain) or masochism must be about hating yourself (as opposed to, say, the way that somebody who is nice to you when you're in pain becomes such a nice person) also believe that any religion must be good no matter what harm is done in its name.

They have laws applying specifically to Muslims, enforced by Muslim courts separate from the secular courts. Everyone else can drink.

well replying to mainly one of ur answers its more like if it is prohibited to sell alcohol in a country that mainly explains that the autoroties over there assume that what ever people are drinking doesnt contain alcohol. I have lived in saudi arabia and have seen people with alcohol products which are strickly prohibited but on the other side they are drinking it openly due to no risk of the authorites knowing that they are drinking alcohol in the first place.
Lets assume!!!!! in US soil drugs are prohibited to use as well as sell and other distrabution concepts but when it comes to using drugs WEED if i must say is so much used around in public that can be considered in a large percentage off the population but concidering the authoroties they dont exactly know what they are smoking until to be really inspected for it.
same thing with minors drinking!!!!!!! they dont know its a minor until they check their ID or in this situation more suitable is a minor holding a cup and dinking something out of it!!!! so they dont exactly know that its alcohol until its tested out!!!!
