The bloke was a complete religious maniac, of course, from a very young age, and, contrary to the popular misconception, a devout Catholic to his dying day, thus giving rise to much misunderstanding in his own day, even as now. (Last week's episode conveyed this very well, in fact. He used the reformers to get his own way, and then when the opposition was eliminated or emasculated informed them, to their chagrin, that there would be no Reformation in England while HE was still alive!) Consequently, there was plenty of this "real presence of Christ" bollocks, as one would expect, from Henry and the other Catholics of the day, but this was FIVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO!! Wouldn't you think that otherwise intelligent people, living in a more sophisticated and supposedly enlightened, technological age, would see these fantasies for what they are?
