WHEN P Z Myers drew attention yesterday to a poll asking whether an “offensive” billboard – erected by the Joliet Jackhammers, a baseball team in Illinois – should be removed, 56 percent said Yes, while 44 percent said No.
This morning the Yes poll has dwindled to a miserable 11 percent.

It’s in very poor taste. To have God tell you to buy tickets? Give me a break.
The sign, according to this report, went up last Saturday, and is part of an ad campaign where ten percent of December ticket sales will be donated to a church or charity of the customer’s choice. Said the team’s Executive Vice President/General Manager Jamie Toole:
We’re not trying to be blasphemous. The concept behind the billboard is to bring people back to the Web site where it clearly explains what we’re doing.

There’s one just down my street that has god telling me to go to church. It’s in very poor taste.
