THIS is FAR too good to let go …
It’s now come to light that the god-fearing Iris Robinson, 60, obsessed with family values and made nauseous by homosexuality, is the living embodiment of the Mrs Robinson played by Anne Bancroft, who has an affair with the young Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) in the 1967 Oscar winning movie, The Graduate.
I don’t recall the on-screen Mrs Robinson being a vile Christian bigot. But the real-life Mrs Robinson has been branded  a “stinking hypocrite” by MP Edwina Currie – who famously had a four-year affair with John Major – for referring to gay people as “an abomination” and criticising other people’s lifestyle choices while boasting about her deeply-held Christian views.

Top: a scene from The Graduate with Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman. Below: Toyboy Kirk McCambley and Iris Robinson
Said Currie:
If you go on and on about God’s commandments and keep flinging the tablets of stone at other people, sooner of later someone is going to pick up a bit and chuck it at you.
Mrs Robinson has made stupid and ignorant remarks about homosexuals while she was busy betraying her husband and seeking love somewhere else.
She added:
If the Robinsons learn to be more tolerant of other people’s failings because of this - having found so many in themselves - that has got to be a good thing.
Our Iris, it’s been revealed, had been getting it on with the then 19-year-old Kirk McCambley. The wife of the Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson also helped McCambley, now 21, get a restaurant started.
Peter Robinson, the Democratic Unionist leader, according to this report, ordered an official inquiry on discovering his wife Iris had secured £50,000 from two wealthy developers to help her toyboy set up a restaurant business in south Belfast.
Though conceding his wife’s “irrational behaviour” had caused embarrassment, Mr Robinson said he had been kept in the dark about the nature of the £50,000 when he found out about it December 2008.
Meanwhile, Pastor James McConnell from the Whitewell Tabernacle Church where the couple worship, said the revelations had done nothing to dampen his admiration of the couple.
He said:
I am surrounding them with prayers and I am there for them 100 per cent. I think Iris can begin again in another way, not in politics, where she can help a lot of people.
What better time to remind ourselves of three prescient verses from the Simon and Garfunkel song, Mrs Robinson, heard for the first time in The Graduate.
And here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson
Jesus loves you more than you will know (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who pray
(Hey, hey, hey…hey, hey, hey) …Hide it in a hiding place where no one ever goes
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes
It’s a little secret, just the Robinsons’ affair
Most of all, you’ve got to hide it from the kids …
Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon
Going to the candidates debate
Laugh about it, shout about it
When you’ve got to choose
Ev’ry way you look at it, you lose.

christmas came late this year with this news..
This vile excuse for a human being has finally been shown up for what she is… a lying adulterous power-abusing teenager-abusing trust-abusing cash-extorting twisted Orange bitch !
I hope this runs and runs…and then she disappears back into the filth pit of ignominy where she belongs
January 8th, 2010 at 9:49 pm
Almost a hoist by her own petard. I saw this vile bitch and her dodgy husband on the evening news – still no sign of hubris. And she still has her band of dimwit supporters waving the flag for her.

So Pastor McConnel, of the church where this couple worship, said the revelations had done nothing to dampen his admiration of the couple. Perhaps this comment might cause some of his flock to dampen their admiration for McConnel. Or is a candid assessment more than anyone may hope to expect where these fundies gather together.
Edwina Currie said what needed to be said. Bigots, particularly of the preachy, prating, on the make types from public money need to at least attempt to approach a standard of behaviour most of us take for granted.
Any comments from the “Spiritual Leaders” or are they too busy excercising their unelected bigotry – where some of them infest the House of Lords like weevils – trying to stop sensible euthanasia. Or what about Rowan Williams our confused and confusing Archbishop: quick enough to line up with the African bishops against gays. Anything from our very religious Prime Minister Gordon Brown who seems to live in some weird fantasy where he thinks religious is at the heart of our society. Doesn’t even he conclude that after 2,000 years his faith, beliefs and the rest of it is acheiving little and what good it has acheived is far outweighed by the damage.

Absolutely right, this is just far too good.
I’m only human, and not at all above a bit of Schadenfreude for the hypocritical bigoted arseholes amongst us.

But homosexuality is soooo much worse than all those other sins. And anyway she’s a Christian so she’s forgiven, blah blah blah.

When I read that people like that hypocritical bitch or two-faced lying preachers like Jimmy Swaggart get caught with their pants down like he did a few years back I can’t help but think: ” Well there is a God after all!!” It made my day!

Normand,
Sadly this has the usual predictable out come.
As with Swaggart, Haggard, Hargis (I’ll stop at this point as
the list is really exaustive) she will go on tv and admit
to a moment of madness, brief period of reflection, then
back out in public life, more spiteful than ever.
What’s worse is the lemmings (followers of any religion) will still vote for her as she ‘has been saved’.
Muppets deserve all they get.

who would have thought the Wicked Witch of the North and the DUP would have united the country ……….in laughter. the last 2 days have been like xmas all over again.

HAHAHAH, good for her, many men have done the same, she just got caught!! Bullyhoo on the religon part!!

I feel a bit sorry for the young man having to prostitute himself to that old piece of mutton for 50k.
January 9th, 2010 at 9:07 am
Shit. I am now officially middle-aged.
I just agreed with Edwina Currie.
January 9th, 2010 at 3:41 pm
Wouldn’t it just be too funny for words if he admits to giving it to her up the arse?
January 9th, 2010 at 4:01 pm
There’s another funny thing about this: evidently it might not have become public if, when the affair ended, she hadn’t demanded the return of the money!

The comments re the televangelists are spot on. Do you realize that these two humble followers of Jesus (“Sell what you have and give to the poor”) live like film stars? They enjoy designer clothes, flashy sports cars, and homes in Belfast, London and Florida: claim over £10,000 per week in salaries and “expenses”; and employ sons, daughter and daughter-in-law in their offices! No sign of any worldly lust there, is there? They’ve even outdone the Kinnocks, and that’s saying something!!
January 9th, 2010 at 7:02 pm
I read that she is standing down from office next week. good

Let is hope her husband follows very soon. I find the “vital to the peace process; so important that Peter Robinson holds it together” is bollocks. He has a competent deputy, as far as I know, and the idea that we must all look away for political reasons merely confirms that these politicians with their snouts deep in the public trough have lost all sense of what is right and what is wrong, what is honest and what is dishonest. Did Pete have no idea what his missus was doing all these months: get real.
As for some Tory (Patrick McCormick? perhaps) who heads some Committeel these two are on regarding Northern Ireland he makes me puke: let us not rush to judgement, wait till the facts are in, two very commited people blah, blah, blah……. Terrible personal tragedy, so sad ………. (No mention of this woman’s vicious anti gay views, of course. Did Pete share these? If I held views as virulent as those then my wife would either be sharing them or we would not be together.)
Like another poster I agree with Edwina Currie: she described the wife as “a silly cow.” Well done, Edwina. I would like to have heard what you said off air as well.

barriejohn: Thanks. Irish accent. Sounded a bit like Slugger O’Toole. Even the fundy supporters are running out support. The Irish papers are claiming that Iris “Shag me soon, shag me often” Robinson now has three lovers to her name – and counting. The lack of compassion to her and her husband is put down to “the sheer vicious hypocrisy of this pair of born again christians.”
Or, as a DUP fundie said this morning, “We take this very seriously and follow the literal truth of the bible.” That must make life difficult. I wonder if includes selling your daughter as a slave.

how the mighty have fallen !!! I grew up in Ulster, surrounded by these born again hyprocites, problem is , this whole incident will be explained as a ‘moment of weakness’..’once saved, always saved’, as long as ‘our Iris’ ‘repented’, everything’s ok. What a load of nonsense, at least the Gay community in Ulster can tell these born again idiots where to get off.

I realize that Barryjohn’s purpose is to hoist the christers on their own petard by comparing their observable behavior with what they believe their dead god said. But “sell what you have and give to the poor” is a misleading translation. THE FULLY TRANSLATED BIBLE renders the passage (Mark 10:21) as, “Go and sell whatever you have and give it to The Paupers.” “The Paupers” (Hebrew: Ebionim) was the name of Jesus’ cult. His demand that converts give their property to his communal treasury was analogous to, “sell what you have and give it to the Vatican” –except of course that Jesus was a cardcarrying Jew who would have denounced Anointianity (Greek: khristianismos) as infidel paganism if he had not been totally, permanently, irreversibly dead before it was invented.

The Robinson scandal even made it to Australia’s most famous Bondi Beach where Paul played a tribute to Iris amusing the Irish travellers…
