The waves of accumulating scandal hitting the roman catholic church will look a mere trifle compared to the ‘perfect storm’ that is shortly coming. For these growing, worldwide sexual scandals and endemic institutional corruption, having destroyed virtually any remaining ‘moral’ authority or presumption to understand human nature, are just setting the stage for the ‘churches’ worst nightmare: the questioning of it’s very origins! And that has already begun on the web. Not by any atheist ravings, but with first wholly new interpretation for 2000 years of the Gospel/moral teachings of Christ. Redefining all primary elements including Faith, the Word, Law, Baptism, the Trinity and the Resurrection. This is not reformation but revolution. We may very well come to ‘remember’ the church as two thousands years of hubris, intellectual, theological self deception, retailing a counterfeit copy of revealed truth. They had a phone in on BBC.five live and one caller had the check to say they should not be punished but they willbe judged when they meet their’Maker’. Shows just how stupid some can be.
They read out my text ‘I am so mad as abuse of any child is evil whoever it is.’
Will these evil men get away with this or is the CHurch untouchable.
I hope when the Pope visits we will be able to question him face to face afterall he is only a man in a dress.

The conduct of the catholic church is, always has been, and always will be in the interest of preserving what is left of their power and influence, which of course, always translates into money. And, they always take care of their friends. With their help, Yoseph Mengele died of old age in Argentina, instead of a prison cell.

I will say it again, the sexual abuse of catholic priests that has come to light is just the scum on a very deep pond. This while they claim to be the guardians of morality. No condoms, no birth control pills, but buttfucking alterboys is cool if you wear a black robe with a collar.

One of the most hypocrite was cardinal Spellman who himself was gay and one of the most homophobic of all. He was notorious for bringing young gays to his “palace” and not worrying because after all, who would have believed that that saintly “Man of God” was gay!!! As a gay ex-catholic I feel like puking when I read about this bastard who made us feel like pariahs when we grew up with his sanctimonious bullshit ringing in our ears while all the time he was having his cake and eating it in more ways than one. Finally, maybe they will get what is coming to them!

@barriejohn I hope your link will be widely read. I picked up the news on my car radio on the way home. It is far worse than I realised. Brady was present when they victims were asked to sign vows of silence, not just agree verbally as I assumed. The number of victims is vast and the cover up commensurate with that in its deceit and contemptible insistence on putting priest before victim. I also read the victims’ responses and they said what you might expect that Brady’s words are claptrap, meaningless. The demand for him to resign continues. This scoundrel seems determined to cling to his job: head of the RC church in Ireland.

I saw that article on TV this afternoon. Part of the article included an interview with a lady who as a child was abused by Fr Smyth in 1974. She suffered a further four years of this because ,she says, Sean Brady covered it up. She went on to say that rape was the same crime in 1974 as it is now. As an Irish citizen Brady had a responsibility to report this to the police.

All we get now is an “apology” from a poor excuse for a man who probably wishes it would all just go away.
