TEN thousand young people met in the Archdiocese of Quito in Ecuador and promised to remain chaste until marriage and defend life “from conception to natural death”, according to the Catholic News Agency.

Amparo Medina

Amparo Medina of the organisation, Prolife Action, which organised the event, said thousands of young people attended a concert and listened to testimonies:

About the truth regarding the businesses of death, contraception and abortion.

She added:

The young people heard testimonies from women who were at the doors of abortion clinics but who, with the help of Prolife volunteers, came to understand what an abortion truly is, received help and said yes to life. The shouts of excitement from the young people upon seeing these babies and their mothers was a yes to life.

After the concert, the young people made a promise to live chastely until marriage and to live in marriage faithfully until death.

Medina promised:

We will hold these events again in support of the lives of our children and our families for an Ecuador free of the empire of death, contraception and abortion.

Cardinal Cipriani pictured with the late Pope John Paul II

Meanwhile, CNA reports that Peruvian Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani said the best response to the attacks on Pope Ratzinger and the Church by the media is prayer.

Prayer is the main weapon the Holy Spirit provides to the faithful, especially to priests.

During a Mass in Lima, in which over 200 priests renewed their priestly promises, the cardinal lamented the media attacks on Pope. He claimed Ratzinger had been:

Mistreated by enemies of the Church, with unusual disrespect for the truth and an incredible display of cynicism. It is evident that harming the Church is what is behind this attack. We children of the Church cannot remain silent.  Prayer is the main weapon the Holy Spirit provides us.  Let us pray for the Pope, for the Church, for the bishops, for priests and for those in consecrated life. Let us seek strive greater personal sanctity.

He also warned against being contaminated by:

An age that trivializes everything and seeks to silence the Church and her priests. It is a time to especially show our faith, hope and charity.

Rome, Italy, Mar 31, 2010 / 11:47 am (CNA).- Noted Italian exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, commented this week that the recent defamatory reporting on Pope Benedict XVI, especially by the New York Times, was “prompted by the devil.”

Speaking to News Mediaset in Italy, the 85-year-old exorcist noted that the devil is behind “the recent attacks on Pope Benedict XVI regarding some pedophilia cases.”

“There is no doubt about it. Because he is a marvelous Pope and worthy successor to John Paul II, it is clear that the devil wants to ‘grab hold’ of him.”

Father Amorth added that in instances of sexual abuse committed by some members of the clergy, the devil “uses” priests in order to cast blame upon the entire Church: “The devil wants the death of the Church because she is the mother of all the saints.”

“He combats the Church through the men of the Church, but he can do nothing to the Church.”

The exorcist went on to note that Satan tempts holy men, “and so we should not be surprised if priests too … fall into temptation. They also live in the world and can fall like men of the world.”

That catholic news agency is a barrel of laughs, and they allow comments too….

  2. Is this another piece from The Onion?

  3. Child abuse again! My late best friend’s mother died a few years ago aged 96 years, and never touched a drop of alcohol throughout her life due to a “pledge” she made whilst a young Methodist in the Band of Hope. To her this was a promise made to God, and she would not break it. Children should not be put in this position, as they do not have the maturity to understand the consequences of the promises that they are making. And can you just imagine the clerics taking seriously any oath that THEY ever make?

    Read that again carefully…..

Not a wiff of sympathy for the little ones who suffered and continue to suffer in the back rooms and dark corners of the church….but the pope and his kiddie fiddlers …the faithful must pray for them…while the priests continue to……….. “prey”….

  5. Yes, every life is sacred to the church (except heretics), but while millions die in Africa of AIDS, it is still immoral to use condoms. And has the church done the math about food supply and how many it is supporting? Population control? No, it would limit the future expansion of the church.

Their leaders are buggering little boys, and their crimes are being hidden by their church as a whole. And when it’s exposed, it is Satan’s devious attempt to destroy the true church where all the saints live.

It’s like the “tea party” movement in the US. Every time I see them, I find myself wondering if the human species is too stupid to survive. We can build a pyramid (to honor a man-god), build a skyscaper (to worship profit), and build a Ferrari (to worship adrenalin), but, we cannot put our finger on the technology to get our heads out of our asses. Sad, since all you have to do is open your eyes and realize it’s dark and stinky.

Cannot let this pass it’s too easy…..

“The clergy don’t seem to mind that it’s dark and stinky” ;o)

  8. Is it just me, or does Amparo Medina bear an uncanny resemblance to a certain ex-governor of Alaska?

  9. Lurker,

She looks to me like Benazir Bhutto wearing Palin’s glasses.

    Neo.

  10. Arrogant buggers. They need their bloody fortunes told, the lot of them.

  11. Might have been nice if he’d added the victims of abuse to his list of people the faithful should pray for. But then, they don’t really seem to matter to the good old church, do they.

  12. The RCC has always been deeply messed up over sexuality. Over the centuries, the consequences of this may well have caused more misery in total than obvious things like the witch and heretic tortures and burnings.

  13. “We children of the church cannot remain silent”

    oh the irony.

  14. TEN thousand young people met in the Archdiocese of Quito in Ecuador and promised to remain chaste until marriage …

I think we know how that will work out.

  15. ihedenius, you beat me to it. How many times does this idea have to fail before these idiots realise that it is a bad one? I seem to remember that Sarah Palin was still promoting it after her own teenaged daughter became pregnant. Thinking about it they would probably have more succsess if they sanctified masturbation, I believe that the RCC still consider it a sin.

  16. Ihedenius: They are merely compounding the problem. Now, just to add to the heinous sin of fornication, these young people have to bear the added, and much more serious, responsibility of having broken an oath to the Almighty! Doh!!
