IF Janet Porter’s plans for a huge fundie rally had turned out as intended on May Day, thousands of loopy Christians would have gathered at at a rally to beg God to forgive America for having elected wicked leaders like President Obama.

Janet Porter prays to God to have the world's media delivered into the hands of Christian fundies
Porter believes America is under a curse for having “made the choice of death” by electing President Obama.
But things did NOT go to plan. Instead of the 8,000 expected to pitch up at the Lincoln Memorial to bow their heads and pray for the removal of Obama, only a paltry few hundred made the effort, and, according to this report, Porter was left covering tens of thousands of dollars in costs.
In a desperate attempt to put a positive spin on what was an unmitigated disaster, an outfit to which she is linked – Generals International – put out this statement to their supporters:

So just who is Janet Porter?
She’s religious right activist/conspiracy theory-promoting radio host, who recently delivered a prayer exhorting God to deliver the media into the hands of her fellow fundie dominionists. She beseeched an already overstretched Almighty to:
Take power and influence in the media of this country and of this globe from the unrighteous and give it to righteous people [and to] make CBSÂ the Christian Broadcasting System so that God’s people can finally take dominion over this nation.
Update: Another fundie with a malfunctioning brain has been slapped down by the American Atheists for her attempt to reinvent US history.
The ditzy Sarah Palin, former Governor of Alaska, last week called for US law to be based on the Judeo-Christian Bible.

Sarah Palin: epic fail on history
Palin, who was the Republican candidate for Vice President in 2008, is reportedly considering a run for the White House in 2012 or beyond.
During a TV interview, Palin gushed:
I think we should keep this clean, keep it simple, go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant … They´re quite clear that we would create law based on the God of the Bible and the Ten Commandments.
Dr Ed Buckner, President of American Atheists, said that Palin’s remarks displayed a breathtaking lack of knowledge about the evolution of law and American history.
If we didn’t know better, we might conclude that Sarah Palin’s ‘education’ was somehow carried out in Texas using textbooks that the Texas Board of Education is now trying to fabricate.
Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are not based on the Bible; and the Founders, some of whom were religious, nevertheless advocated separation between government and religion. In fact, Thomas Jefferson wrote in an official letter as President of the need for a ‘wall of separation’ between church and state. Jefferson also wrote explicitly about the falsehood that our laws are based on the Ten Commandments.
Buckner noted that key documents like the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence do not refer to the Judeo-Christian Bible or to a particular religious view. He said:
The Constitution, our basic charter, is historically noteworthy because, for the first time in human history a significant governing charter was issued that did not invoke any deities or supernatural authority at all. It is declared in the name of ‘We the people,’ not in the name of Jesus or Allah or Buddha. Ms. Palin, the United States has never been a theocracy – and now would be a terrible time to change that.
Dave Silverman, Vice President and Communications Director for American Atheists, said that Palin’s poorly-informed comments were a signal that her future campaign:
May end up playing the ‘religion card’ in order to win votes. Palin and her allies on the religious right will continue to capitalize on wedge-issues like the role of religion in American society, even if means grievously distorting our nation’s history.

“Christian BS”? I can see where she’s coming from.

That couple in the picture – yuk! Man with a face like a skull. Woman, slightly lower than he, (natch), with that pert look she has like a gerbil. Take a look at those smiles – so identical they could have been painted on and so phony. And the “message” is a laugh a word.

“Cloud formations formed what looked like thirteen rays of light radiating from behind the memorial” AND?
Clouds form formations all over the place. It could have been a formation resembling a Tea Pot but that wouldn’t make Bertrand Russell’s postulation right would it? Stupid people will see fairies anywhere that suits their agenda and other idiots lap it up. Just checked that I am still in the 21st C and not fallen through a time-portal.
May 10th, 2010 at 11:53 am
WTF! Clouds over Washington DC? Now there’s a sure sign of divine intervention. However I notice that Mr Obama is still president this morning so it doesn’t seem to have worked. Prayer is so random in its results….
“so that God’s people can finally take dominion over this nation.” Well at least they are honest about their intentions. I guess when the day arrives we’ll be needing a new constitution, the one we have now surely won’t fit.
Janet Porter looks a bit of a porker…….maybe should read the bits about gluttony again or that bit about the beam in her own eye?

That’s what I love about fundies. Just when you think they can’t get any more bonkers up pops another to prove you wrong.

Thirteen rays of light? Seems unlucky to me.

I think I have identified something really, really important here in my wilderness fastness. There I am, early morning, walking down from the hill with my hound dog and through the clouds there is a spray of sunshine. Easily more than 13 rays; must have been about 14 at least. But here’s the thing, the centre ray hit exactly on to a tree where years ago I found an image of the previous Pope made of moss and pointing to a leather jacket I had lost. Still with me?
I reckon, and I cannot see how you can contradict this, that the good Lord was telling me to spread the message that Pope Ratzinger is no damn good and the previous guy was the real deal. You know it makes sense.

Just looked outside and I saw a great blanket of grey cloud all over…then I realised what Lordy Lordy Lord Lord was trying to say to me!!! Praise be!! He wants me to change the sheets on the bed! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, too much coffee.

I prefer Janet Street Porter, personally!
I just knew that GodTV was involved in all this from the word go. If you ever have the misfortune to stumble across this inane channel, and listen for five minutes to the cerebrally challenged couple who are responsible for its output of bilge, you will hear words like “powerful” and “anointing” used over and over again, like a sort of mantra. Everything that they do is “wonderful” and “amazing”, and “touched by God” or “blessed by the Lord” – it’s totally nauseating. I used to notice much the same thing when I listened to Billy Graham’s Hour of Decision years ago. No note of pessimism was allowed: Cliff Barrows would announce breathlessly that “The Lord is doing wonderful things”, or “We’ve been blessed in a wonderful way recently”, and Billy Graham ALWAYS declared, before every single “Crusade”, that “We believe that the Lord is going to bless this Crusade in a greater way than any we have held in the past”. This is all fodder for the gullible providers of funds, of course, who have to believe that the dollars they are sacrificing are REALLY making a difference in the world, and not being totally wasted!

Listen to this if you can stomach it: another of these mad women is “sharing” about the “end times” yet again, and telling everyone how a recent earth tremor (in California, of all places!) is God’s way of telling us how unhappy he is with the way that things are going down here!! (Brings a tear to your eye, doesn’t it?)

I’m sure the sane majority wouldn’t allow these morons total control of the media. These are the same sort of nasty little scrote as the Rev Robert West from the previous article. God’s Nazis. Obama’s not favouring them like Bush did so they hate him, I think he might be black as well. These caring xians are also the sort who begrudge paying taxes for the health and welfare of the disadvantaged.
Why can’t they appreciate nature without applying their delusion to it? Sunlight breaking through a cloud formation is nice to see but it’s just water vapour, gas and photons you demented cretins.
Theirs aren’t harmless superstitions either. The bastards want to affect our lives with their mumbo jumbo. They should be ridiculed at every opportunity, followed around by Pedo Bears or headbutted for evangelising in pubs.

How can anyone be uncertain about the power of prayer? Millions of people pray every day for world peace, and we can see how well that is working.
May 10th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
I wish it was the bloody end times, then these nutters could shove off and leave us to it.
May 10th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
I shudder to think what we’d be up against if Palin ever made the White House. The end of days really would be upon us with that crackpot at the helm. The terrifying thing is, there are millions of Americans who would actually think it was a great idea to vote her in. It might be the sarnie I had at lunchtime, but I suddenly feel all unsettled.
May 10th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
Dr Harwood: the stock answer to your logical statement is “But just imagine how much worse things would be if we were not praying for divine intervention”. There’s no answer to that, as they say!
May 10th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
These cooks are everywhere, but if you just ignore them, they’ll find an audience and bite you in the ass.
@Albert
The 13 rays are an attempt to reference the 13 stripes on the American flag, I’m sure. What I don’t understand is how they could get their shoes off fast enough to count that high. As for anyone who has been to the Lincoln or Jefferson memorials, they are a somewhat spooky design, and cloudy weather in DC helps enhance the effect. But if god could send rays of light like that, why wouldn’t he inspire more people to show up to see them? I’ve said it before and I’ll
say it again, complexity is not their strong point.
Oh, and a happy belated birthday to Bjohn!
May 10th, 2010 at 6:34 pm
@ Angie RS If they really believed all this crap about the end of the world being near then how would they sell all their shite books and DVD’s and rake in £millions each year?
End times prophecy is a big business which why is I doubt that its proponents think it is very likely to happen very soon or ever.
It is just another successful conjob to part Xian’s with their cash
May 10th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
@ William Harwood
‘How can anyone be uncertain about the power of prayer?’
I can assure you I have complete certainty in the power of prayer….
– I am 100% certain it doesn’t work!
As for that Palin, what a piece of work she is. Straight out of the George Dubya Shit-For-Brains Academy.
May 10th, 2010 at 7:45 pm
Doesn’t that daft bat Crazy Sarah Palin just love herself. And while she spews her crazy views she charges the Republican dumfuck audiencies big bucks. Ignorant, morally debased, sick bigot, devoid of sense or intelligence this nutter holds all the cards to be a big political success in fundie USA. The dafter the comments the more the dumbfuck audiences scream applause, stamp and shout. Curdles the stomach to see it.

Here in
LondonRome, we have a thick covering of grey cloud as I write.I drop to my knees and mumble a fervent wish to the supernatural being of choice. And supernatural my choice must be to parse, sort and generally ignore the millions of parallel demands giving the impression of true randomness.
I pray that these fundies will be struck dumb by the realisation that they reason out of their backsides. A thin ray of light appears!
But I don’t think it’ll work somehow…
May 10th, 2010 at 8:23 pm
I take it all back: there is an answer to the above statement. I suddenly remembered that study that showed that when patients were prayed for they actually fared worse than those who were not being prayed for!

Listen to this if you can stomach it: another of these mad women is “sharing†about the “end times†yet again, and telling everyone how a recent earth tremor (in California, of all places!) is God’s way of telling us how unhappy he is with the way that things are going down here!!
WTF? There are multiple tremors/quakes every bloody day in CA. It’s evidence of nothing but the fact that a giant fault runs through nearly the entire state.
May 10th, 2010 at 11:28 pm
That’s why I drew attention to the fact that this “miraculous” ‘quake had occurred in California, Buffy!

Let me tell you a story, Edward Buckner once wrote a christmas threadhead entitled, “Other myths born on Dec. 25th.” He cited parrallel with myths from Greek and Egyptian lore which seemed AMAZING!!, so I went learning everything I could about it. And I found a lot of parallels, particularly with the god Horace of Egypt, not just with Jesus but with Moses as well. The rest were ranging from a real stretch to “wtf are you talking about????” So I replied, “Ed, you make some facinating claims, but, I have failed to authenticate them. Can you provide us with some bibliography?” He never replied, which puts him one up on harwood, who tries to pretend he has knowledge of an earlier text that was smoothed over by ghost writers.
And I always liked Dave Silverman, he endured endless abuse from the antisemitic conspiracy theorists that haunted his website. They thought that if you don’t believe in god, you’re some higher intellect. Well, maybe I’m wrong, but, I always thought that being a freethinker was understanding the flaws in the human condition. That bigots and earthworms don’t qualify.
As far as I’m concerned, AA and nogodblog.com is a collection of amoebas with a couple of real freethinkers at any given time. If anyone looks in, say hi for me to DW, and tell Silverman to go fuck himself.
