GEORGE “I’m not gay” Rekers, the reparative therapy psychologist “gay-cure” charlatan who this week resigned from his position as a board member of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality – allegedly to give himself time to fight media reports about his luggage-lifting hooker – has placed himself in the care of a coterie of Christian councellors.
In an e-mail to Christianity Today, the lying, hypocritical little turd, who hasn’t yet stopped protesting his innocence, says:
I confessed to the Lord and to my family that I was unwise and wrong to hire this travel assistant after knowing him only one month before the trip and not knowing whether he was more than a person raised in a Christian home.
I also confessed to the Lord and to my family the sin of thereby putting myself into a vulnerable situation where I tragically became subject to false allegations.
Rekers said that he regrets “unanticipated harm” for his “unwise decision,” and briefly mentioned part of the trip.
One thing for which I am grateful is that my travel assistant openly shared his spiritual doubts with me during the trip and he did let me share the gospel of Jesus Christ with him with many Scriptures in three extended conversations.
And what role did daily “long stroke” massages – applied across his up-in-the-air butt and dick by nude, $75-a-day escort Jo-Vanni Roman – play in these “extended spiritual encounters”?
Rekers does not say, but he did reveal that he is now being advised by a team of three Christian counsellors (Larry, Curly and Mo?).
And I have committed myself to ongoing meetings with an experienced pastor and counsellor from my church, so I can more fully understand my weaknesses and prevent this kind of unwise decision-making in the future.
In a follow-up e-mail to CT, Rekers said that his wife will be retiring soon and will accompany him on trips when their sons are unavailable.

Ted Haggard claims to have prayed away the gay
Meanwhile we learn that the world’s second most famous hirer of male hookers, Ted Haggard, has emerged from under a rock to open a new church this week.
According to this report the opening of his new St James Church in Colorado Springs represents the latest step in a revival, of sorts, for the deposed leader of the New Life Megachurch.
In November, 2006, this ghastly reptile was forced out of his position at New Life Church after a very public scandal in which he admitted to soliciting oral sex and buying crystal meth from a male prostitute.
Jeez, these fundies sure know how to party!
Update: A group of anti-gay activists known as Liberty Counsel is offering to help Rekers in his claim of defamation against the Miami New Times.
Said the group’s founder & chairman Mathew D Staver:
I think [Mr. Rekers] would have a great case to file a defamation action. I think it was a completely arranged setup.
Staver believes Rekers’ testimony against a Florida law allowing gay adoptions was:
A major focus of people trying to discredit him as an individual. I think that it’s the classic [tactic], ‘If you can’t destroy the message, you destroy the messenger’ … and I think this is a personal attack designed to cast aspersions on his character and reputation.

He needs one more ploy and he will get away with it. That is to say that he was misled by the devil but the good Lord saved him. Lots of confession, bathing in the blood of the lamb, been an experience en route to salvation and, repentance followed by forgiveness thanks be to Jesus, he will emerge stronger and whole, after his suffering.
The formula is well tried and it does work.

“If you can’t destroy the message, you destroy the messenger.”
Normally true but in this case the hateful message and the hateful messenger are inextricably entwined together. I think that he is going to wade neck deep into the do-do if he tries to take court action. It seems to be apparent that the allegations about him are true and if they are forced to defend themselves I am pretty sure that his accusers will dig up a whole lot more. He is likely to be left with nothing but a huge bill.

Stonyground- Here’s to hoping the bastard goes bankrupt. Of course, he has plenty of die-hard loons to help him out if he does, but whatever lightens their coffers has to be for the good.
As to the whole accusation of character assassination, well, we generally feel that being gay is not a “problem” as they cast it. If any assassination is happening, it’s because a bunch of assholes put guns in their mouths (and dicks) and pulled the trigger.

@ Janstince
The die hard loons will abandon him like they abandoned good old Rev Ted when he was conclusively outed if lots more “luggage carriers†come forward. The last thing the loony right want is a protracted trial showing up the rank hypocrisy of one of their poster boys
I would imagine their will be phone records emails and credit card transactions which will prove a paper trial that any half decent lawyer could bring up in any court case so I don’t expect there to be any legal action from Rekers
My guess is the rancid old queen will go into therapy and say he has been cured and beg for forgiveness

I love the fact that they pronounce his name Wreckers!!
(And Haggard has a most suitable moniker, too!)

I’m sure Haggard and Rekers are going to need their ‘luggage lifted’ again sooner or later, people can’t deny their sexuality indefinitely. Just wait. The poor ‘sinners’ must be suffering–we should show more atheistic compassion.

I would love to see Rekers try a defamation suit; that would be delish. Hey fundies, you might want to look up “Streisand Effect;” it’s even got its own Wikipedia page for your reading convenience.

“If you can’t destroy the message, you destroy the messenger.†Like RCC Inc. these guys just don’t (appear) to get it. “Doctor” Rekers is the architect of his own problems – nobody needed to be out to destroy him – he did it to himself!
I think it’s wonderful that his wife will now accompany him, when their sons aren’t available to “lift the luggage”…….he’ll be under constant surveillance and by someone a lot less forgiving than the late JC I suspect.
I’d try lifting a little luggage myself except that I’m more into “hiking the appalachian trail”……..

Tasty! The Orlando Sentinel has taken a huge swing at Florida Attorney General (and candidate for Governor) Bill McCollum (and the gay adoption issue).
Our take on: Bill McCollum’s “expert” witness George Rekers

Poor Rekers,
In the US, the only thing that has kept the tabloids afloat is that the law reads, in a case of libel, the plaintiff must prove that what was written about him/her was false. The burden of proof. Rekers is fucked, his career is over. His escort already admitted they had sex. Maybe Rekers was trying to open his eyes to spiritual enlightenment through his butt. He’s free to argue that in court.

“If you can’t destroy the message, you destroy the messenger?”
What idiocy. Most rational people have no difficulty at all in destroying this particular message. I’d like to see some of these evil morons accept responsibility for their hypocrisy. Nobody would care what Rekers did with rent boys if he hadn’t set himself up as a great moral arbiter who spoke for God on the subject of sexuality.

Libel laws in the US, as Mr Wolfe points out, place the onus of proof on the plaintiff. Even if a published report is inaccurate, it does not constitute libel if the publisher can make a believable claim of “absence of malice.”
The situation is very different in the UK. Libel laws are so stacked in favor of the plaintiff that Liberace was awarded damages against a publisher who described his performance as “fruit flavored”, because the publisher was unable to produce a witness willing to testify that the piano player had sucked his cock.
It should surprise no one that Tom Cruise sued an accuser for libel in the UK, but dared not do so in the US, although he did intimidate Comedy Central into not rerunning an episode of South Park.

Actually, I have seen that episode at least three times. It pissed off Isaac Hayes (a scientologist), the voice of “chef” and he hasn’t returned. I’m okay with that.
Nancy Cartright, the voice of Bart Simpson is a scientologist as well. It would be so sad if she took her hypocrisy and fucked herself.
While “Pulp Fiction” is one of my favorite movies, I cannot reconcile a talented actor like John Travolta and a scheme of madness like scientology. It just doesn’t make sense. Genius and infantile pathology in the same package. Confused.

If he did nothing else useful, Rekers has added a euphemism to the English language.
Luggage-lifter – charming turn of phrase. Must make a note to use it, preferably around evangelicals to confuse them!

Excellent phrase, “A moment of weakness”.
What would you do in a moment of weakness?
Personally, I might eat a pasty, booze the night before work or train too hard and be forced to miss the next day. As a heterosexual man I am unlikely to seek sexual encounters with other men.
Rekers is gay, he should at least be honest to his wife.
