ABSTINENCE advocate Mark Souder –  a conservative Republican Indiana congressman – is now history following revelations that he had congress with a part-time staffer named Tracy Jackson.

Souder and Jackson recently had starring roles in an internet video show praising the virtues of sexual abstinence.

Mark Souder tries to flog Congress a plan to forcibly fit hi-tech chastity belts to all US high school girls

In the November 2009 a video, Jackson introduces Souder this way:

You’ve been a long-time advocate for abstinence education and in 2006 you had your staff conduct a report entitled ‘Abstinence and its Critics’ which discredits many claims purveyed by those who oppose abstinence education.

Souder, according to this report, will step down on Friday. He said he had:

Sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff. I wish I could have been a better example. In this poisonous environment of Washington, DC, any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain.

He added:

I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process. … We are a committed family but the error is mine and I should bear the responsibility. Not only am I thankful for a loving family but for a loving God.

Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994, Souder survived a tough re-election challenge in 2008 and survived a contested primary two weeks ago.

In his statement, he added that by stepping down, his “mistake cannot be used as a political football” to undermine the causes he supports.

As I leave public office, my plans are focused on repairing my marriage, earning back the trust of my family and my community and renewing my walk with my Lord.

Souder and his wife, Diane, have three grown children and two grandchildren.

Jackson, a part-time aide who worked in Souder’s northern Indiana district office, handled communications for the congressman in the district and periodically travelled with him.

Meanwhile, in the latest twist to the tale of Dr George Alan Rekers, another notorious rent-boy lover, Ted Haggard, insists there is a key difference between his fall from grace and Rekers’:

He [Rekers] made statements that his personal religious beliefs should be inculcated into civil law. I never said anything about that.  He said same-sex couples were unable to raise healthy kids. I would never say anything like that.

And here for your delectation is the George Alan Rekers song – which includes the hilarious line “Gays should not adopt a child, but renting one’s OK …”

  1. When I first went into business, a more experienced acquaintance gave me the following advice:

    NEVER PORK THE PAYROLL!

It’s a motto I’ve stuck by and Mark Souder would have done well to follow it. He should have worn his own chicken wire underpants and left the milf alone. Xian fundies are just as dirty as the rest of us. It’s heartening to see their lives fall apart after they’ve preached all that bollox to the sane. As boss you must keep your staff at arms length or you could be exposed to all sorts of unwelcome leverage.

All the fault of the wicked media again then!

  3. HAHAHA what a tosser. Another one bites the dust so goes the song. Do you think there are any fundies who are not either closet queens, have multiple mistresses or just conmen

  4. What I particularly love is the shyster’s utter lack of remorse.

He never once says how profoundly sorry he is, how much he regrets betraying the love of his wife and family, or how badly he has let down the people he represents in Congress.

Nope, there’s not a word of it. Just a half-hearted “I wish I could have been a better example” and “the error is mine”.

Sounds to me like he isn’t exactly living in fear of god’s wrathful vengeance, or indeed that he’s all that arsed about getting found out, period.

    Feckin’ hypocrite!

  5. So Haggard now claims that he was never for the persecution of gays within the civil law. I beg to differ

  6. I’m assuming that the caption below the Souder photo is a joke but if so, what the hell are those things that he is holding up? Also, I know you lot so if there is a proper answer to this question I do understand that I will have to pick it out from all the silly suggestions.

  7. Stony

I think their pedals from Toyota cars.

  8. Another day, another RRRW sex scandal.

  9. Love that parting shot by Souder. As a Christian preacher I suppose he should know all about seizing upon the ‘failings’ of others for political gain. A liar to the end, he is patently not resigning out of concern for his family being targeted, but because he has no more credibility.

  10. Well, I know that when I was a teenager, I was definitely thinking with the wrong head. Buy a car you couldn’t afford to insure, let alone pay for or keep fuel in. Buy stylish clothes, disrespect authority, and sucker punch a bully. All to get your dick wet.

But, Souder is so old, I find myself doubting he could find wood in a Home Depot, let alone in his pants.

While they fly the banner that homosexuality is unnatural, the message comes home again and again, if there is anything unnatural on the planet, it’s teenagers not fucking each other. I know, because my balls told me so, and they didn’t have a covert agenda. And nature will not be denied. If you want to foil it at it’s own game, you need condoms and birth control pills and education on how to use them.

  11. It isn’t the sex, that’s between him and his missus, it’s the blatent hypocrisy. I must admit a delectable feeling of schadenfreude here, though! Echoing Broadsword – never screw with the hired help, it’s a surefire recipe for disaster. This self-inflicted injury has nothing to do with the climate in Washington DC. He just needs to handle the media better; he should confess all to the voters in Indiana, say he’s sorry, sorry, sorry, satan led him astray, he’s on the right path now thanks to jesus’ graces…..who knows maybe the religiotwat voters will reelect him
