AND this evening, folks, we have another tale of a gay couple being refused accommodation in a bed and breakfast establishment  – this time in the idyllic surroundings of Grand Forks, British Columbia.
A refusal last year to accommodate Shaun Eadie and Brian Thomas by the evangelical owners of the Riverbend guesthouse – Susan and Les Molnar – is being investigated this week at a BC Human Rights Tribunal.

Deer roam freely in the grounds of the Riverbend B&B. We hope none of them are gay
According to the complaint filed with the tribunal, the gay couple booked a room at the round-the-bend  b & b in June 2009.
When Molnar received a call from Eadie requesting – gasp -just one bed, she and immediately told her husband and co-owner, Les Molnar.
Moments later, Les Molnar called Eadie back and asked if he and Thomas were a gay couple. Eadie said they were. Molnar then cancelled the booking.
In an application to have the complaint dismissed, the male Molnar bleated:
To allow a gay couple to share a bed in my Christian home would violate my Christian beliefs and would cause me and my wife great distress.
He said that to have allowed the booking would be:
Encouraging something which I believe to be wrong according to my religious beliefs and my understanding of scripture.
The Molnars also argued in their response that their charter rights to freedom of religion and association protected their decision not to do business with the gay couple.
The application to dismiss was turned down in a decision issued in March.
Neither couple has commented publicly about the case.
A spokesman for the BC Civil Liberties Association, David Eby, said the incident appears to be a straightforward case of discrimination based on sexual orientation, in contravention of the BC Human Rights Code.
It doesn’t matter whether you are running a home-based business or the Hotel Vancouver. As soon as someone opens to the public, they have to provide that service without discrimination, that is, without preventing people from accessing the service based on race, religion or sexual orientation.
Two days have been scheduled for the hearing.
In an on-line blurb about the establishment, the mad Molnars invite guests to:
Come and share our spacious comfortable home situated on the scenic Kettle River as your ‘home away from home’. Relax on the deck and watch the river flow by. Enjoy the abundant bird life of resident eagles and blue herons (bring your camera).

Last month we reported via the BBC that a gay couple – Michael Black and John Morgan, from Brampton, Cambridgeshire – are to sue the owners of a guesthouse – Mike Wilkinson and his wife Susanne – who turned them away because of their sexuality.
Civil liberties organisation Liberty is acting for Black and Morgan and said it planned to bring a civil case.

Of course if a gay or atheist B&B owner were to refuse service to Christians all hell would break loose. But the Christian Crazies think it’s fine and dandy for them to refuse service based on their nutty beliefs and expect no recourse.

Is there a shortage of B&Bs or something?

“Is there a shortage of B&Bs or something?”
In my opinion that is completely beside the point. A few decades ago you could put a sign up outside your business saying something like ‘No Blacks, no Jews’ now almost everybody knows that that was completely out of order but the bigots had to be faced down in order to achieve the situation that we have now. It is sad that this argument has to be won over and over again, once for each persecuted minority.
I am also pissed off whenever these people refer to ‘Scripture’. Their holy book contains hundreds of rules that they conveniently ignore but one that allows them to hide behind it while using it to pick on a minority is supposedly sacrosant.
Buffy, you are dead right, they would squeal like little piggies but it never happens does it? Why? because gays and atheists are better than that.

Heather – while there’s probably no shortage of B&Bs there sure seems to be a shortage of intelligence, tollerance and decency amongst the ever-adorable xtian branch of our human family.

If these people want to run a business then they should be required to abide by the law which says that discriminating against anyone because of their sexuality is illegal. that’s it. their religious beliefs do not come into it.
as others have pointed out, not only do these people pick and choose which parts of their book they follow and which they ignore, if they had their way we would still be discriminating against blacks/jews/indians/chinese etc. and mixed race marriage would be illegal, we would still have serfs and slaves. i could go on but you get the picture.

Here we go with round #374974 of ‘Wah, wah, why should we have to treat others how we would expect to be lawfully and courteously treated ourselves… we are Chris-channns?’ Naturally, issues about religion and unsuitable pairings are nowhere to be found on the Riverbend’s website, just like The Swiss B&B in Berkshire whose profits I would be pleased to see fall this tax year.

We don’t serve your sort here…..Get out!
Very nasty.
I’m not gay but I recently had a brief taste of some of the hatred they endure. I watched a YouTube vid that was something to do with gays and was prompted to post a comment in support after reading some of the bile written by others. The bigots assumed I too was gay and I got several vile personal messages over the next few days. In the end I just deleted them without reading. Give it a go, it’s quite an eye-opener.

In fact, I think I am going to start asking what if any religion people are before I serve them. And then just go ahead and serve them, letting them know that even if they have incorrect beliefs, it is my duty to serve them. What could be fairer?

I guess that’s all that can be done, Bduke,
No government is going to require people to accept people into their homes that they are afraid of. Except, cops.
I remember traveling from Idaho to Arkansas, a little wayward, and my parents were poor. We stayed in cheap motels with two double beds. My mom and dad in one bed, and myself and my two brothers in the other. Not once did I buttfuck either of them, and I believe they didn’t buttfuck me, I think it would have woke me up. Since when does two guys sleeping in the same bed mean they’re boning each other, and why does a fucking psuedo-motel even care? They have to wash the sheets anyway. Maybe they’re eating each other’s shit off the bedspread. Sorry, I haven’t gotten over that video yet.
Gays are not new at this game. Steer clear of the idiots. Posting their stats may steer away a good deal of sypathizers as well, and that’s the best outcome you can hope for. Whatever, I’m on your side.

I always feel slightly nauseated when people are flaunting their bigotry, and I don’t care if it’s about religion, politics, colour. We all have our likes and dislikes, sometimes factually based, but why bother caring about other people’s life-style as long as their ‘crime’ is victim-less?

Normally I’d say you made your bed,lie in it, serves them right, but there is (to my mind, something else here). The BC Human Rights Tribunal is a star chamber, TRUTH IS NOT A DEFENSE there, they should
be in a regular court, anyone using the BCHRT is lowlife and has a case
that would not stand the light of truth or reason in a honest court.
We are working very hard to remove these ” Tribunals”, please do not
accord them a respect they do not deserve.
This is what they do, and it isn’t about justice. It’s PC with a cudgel. Stalin would be proud.

Frankly they are a international embarassment, slipped in by pierre
“disaster boy” Trudeau when the Canadian people where not looking.

Personally I refuse to do business with anyone who wears garments of mixed fabrics, hell-bound bastards that they are.
