AUGUST 26, 2010, marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late Mother Teresa, aka the Albanian Prune, aka the Hell’s Angel – and US Catholics are demanding that the old fraud be commemorated in lights at the Empire State Building.

Mother Teresa: Her 'No abortion and no contraception' mantra did untold harm to women

The owner of the iconic New York landmark, Anthony E Malkin, is equally determined that the skyscraper should not be used to promote religion – any religion - and has now become the target in a hate campaign led by Catholic fanatic Bill Donohue, of the Catholic League.

He has launched a drive to force his company to violate its long-standing policy of not lighting the building for religious purposes.

Donohue declared the company’s decision to stick to its policy “indefensible and obscene”, and accused the owner of anti-Catholic bigotry.

He then threatened Malkin:

Malkin has made his decision to stiff Catholics. His decision to double down at this juncture – in the face of massive support for our request – is something he will regret for the rest of his life.

Donohue announced a protest by Catholics outside the Empire State Building on August 26, suggesting that the owner’s failure to capitulate to demands could lead to riots.

I think that too many Catholics have fallen asleep at the wheel. It’s time for people, the rank and file to say enough is enough. I hope it’s going to be non-violent, I wouldn’t encourage violence but I know there’s a lot of anger.

To date, Catholics supporting the lighting have gathered 40,000 petition signatures in the city of over 8 million. City Councilman Peter Vallone has gone one step further, introducing a resolution which would urge the owner to light the building as demanded.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation has taken a stance against the Council resolution – deemed an inappropriate intrusion of religion into government – but is in favor of another reason to light up the building – Women’s Equality Day which also takes place on August 26.

Said Foundation Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor:

Volunteerism is great: but let’s do it in the name of equality, to honor the foremothers who fought for nearly a century for civil equality. Do not let Women’s Equality Day be supplanted by cheerleaders for the Roman Catholic Church and its anti-women, anti-gay, anti-stemcell research, anti-progress doctrines.

She added:

Mother Teresa did not stand for women’s rights – she was all about taking away women’s rights: the fundamental decision of when or whether to become a mother. She used her podium relentlessly and globally to pound away at reproductive rights, including the right to contraception. She used virtually every public occasion to call for the recriminalization of abortion, and virulently opposed legalization of abortion, despite the fact that backstreet abortions are the leading cause of maternal deaths in countries outlawing abortion.

The FFRF has issued an action alert, asking supporters to write to the NY City Council, the NY Post, and Anthony Malkin.

  1. Surely you meant to call the old bitch an Albanian Prune…

  2. The Mary-worshippers never miss an opportunity to play the victim when reasonable people refuse to bow to their demands. Perhaps the owners of the Emipire State Building could placate Donohue by displaying a giant illuminated paedo-bear.

It’s a private building. It’s up to the owners what they do. I would be disappointed if they lit it up but it would be their decision and I would respect that. Why do these people find that so hard to do?

  4. They should light up Bill Donohue in celebration of the despicable old charlatan’s 100th birthday instead. Preferably by putting him on top of a rather large bonfire.

  5. Does Bill Donohue not see the big problem with a religious group threatening a skyscraper in New York?

  6. Bullying religiots making veiled threats.
While not officially condoning riots, Donohue is content to have planted the seed of the idea into the heads of sheep.

If I owned the Empire State, I wouldn’t take telling off anyone as to what I do with MY building. Maybe they should project an image of America’s most prolific paedophile priest onto it instead. It’s his bullying attitude I find most distateful. My theory of mind improves as I age so I know others will react very badly to threats. Better to persuade and negotiate than risk a smack in the mouth.

There was an interesting article in “The Examiner” about all this, including a lecture from Donohue:

  7. Leave Bill D alone, he is a deep cover POE working for the left.

  8. Did they illuminate the building for Adolf Hitler’s centenary in 1989? Just thought I’d ask.

  9. I did, Mr Monist, and I have now put it right. Thanks.

  10. Thumbs up to David!!

“Does Bill Donohue not see the big problem with a religious group threatening a skyscraper in New York?”

  11. With every religious in-your-face nut expecting preferential treatment we’ll be in for interesting times. Will Osama bin Laden be allowed to demand, on behalf of his followers, that the Statue of Liberty be dressed in a burqa for a couple of days to mark 9/11?

  12. ‘Malkin has made his decision to stiff Catholics… I wouldn’t encourage violence but I know there’s a lot of anger’

Yes, its the old can-of-worms blackmail game in the face of a salutation to religious demands or disapproval being refused. I’m not violent of course, but I can’t say others won’t be after you provoked them by having the temerity to not do what we asked! I was going to suggest that Donohue is Stephen ‘Birdshit’ Green’s opposite number in New York, but I doubt Green could get the support of 40,000 people for anything except his resignation and suicide.

  13. Surely there’s room for compromise? The Basilica in Vatican could be illuminated with rainbow colours to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, or maybe red on World Aids Day to encourage condom use… Just a thought.

  14. Speaking of religious people who threaten tall buildings:

  15. Isn’t there some irony here in that the biscuit munchers are quite happy to waste other people’s electricity remembering this fraud, yet in one of her own hovels she would have been the first to ensure good money donated by poor fools wasn’t spent on lightbulbs, on the dubious grounds that it was good for the poor to suffer?

  16. What Stuart H said.

  17. Fuck it, let them have a riot. It will show the world just how much on a par with islam that christianity really is.

  18. Old bitch yourself.

Would you call her an old nigger? An old kike?

    But bitch is just fine.

    Pathetic.

  19. I was going to link to this post, too, but I can’t. I don’t link to places that allow sexist epithets.

  20. The sad old cow was a secret atheist and at the end wrote letters to Karl Wojtila basically saying that what the church taught was in fact pure bollocks and saying she had lost he faith

  21. Bitch: a malicious or arrogant woman (Chambers).

She was a woman: she was malicious: she was also arrogant in the extreme. What’s the problem?

  22. Alan: As I have said before, when I was a Christian I was told that it was “good to have doubts”, but no one could tell me why!

  23. Where the fuck is king kong when you need him??

That hells angel documentary by the hitch is a good watch also that episode penn and teller done where they exposed the truth about her gahndi and the dalai llama was good too

  24. I defer to this man on theology

  25. Mr. Donohue seems to have a chip on his shoulder or a persecution complex or something. He seems unable to understand that the owners of the ESB have every right to decide what they do and don’t do with their own building. He also manages to translate their refusal to have anything to do with any religious matter into a deliberate snub to Catholics only. I wonder, does he really think like this or is he deliberately inciting the stupid sheep for his own ends?

Donohue is definitely not stupid. He’s a very careful manipulator and bully. Everything on his agenda must be done for the good of the RCC. I’m sure he’s aware of other points of view but is unconcerned by them. As with all religiots, you’ll not manage to talk him down from his tree. He must be undermined and the best weapon is ridicule. South Park has cast him as Pope:
    http://breakingspells.files.wo.....onohue.png
He also had a moan about a Simpsons episode, while everybody else was laughing:

  28. Hey Mr. Owner – why not turn off all the lights, and show you care about the earth, which is real? Unlike those imaginary friends whom the Catholics would revere.

  29. Stuart H said:

“Yes, its the old can-of-worms blackmail game in the face of a salutation to religious demands or disapproval being refused.”

Response: MLK was a baptist preacher, but, he always made it clear that he believed that the answer to black oppression in America was through non-violent protest. Yet Donahue announces that basically he’s against violence, but he fears he cannot contain the anger of the crowd. Veiled, yet obvious threat of overt violence.

    Response: I concur. Bring it!

Finally, Christopher Hitchens, he’s my rolemodel. He should have been a lawyer doing final summations on landmark cases. He just presents facts and ties them together in a way that any highschool graduate can understand and appreciate. He doesn’t raise his voice, or preach, he just makes his case and rests. I’ve seen more than one interview where he was interupted and not given a fair chance to present his case, but he never loses his cool.

  30. Religious proselytizing has filled the earth with terror for millenia. Many of us are simply sick of it and sick of the sycophants who promote this ignorance while reaping the support of governments and individuals who can ill afford to continue wallowing in this swill called religion. Sky-fairies, gods, demons, boogermen, and assorted other fabrications can all be remedied with a spoonful of reason swallowed by a cup of common sense and logic. The politicians find these gullibles as useful idiots in garnering votes for indeed religion is emotional hype based on ignorance and fueled by fear.

  31. I had read Christopher Hitchen’s “The Missionary Position” before I asked an immigrant from India (math prof retired from University of Iowa) if Hitchen’s book was accurate. The reply was, “I’ve heard that.”

Of course the building’s owners can prohibit religious displays. I wish everyone would!

    Let reason prevail!

  32. “Bitch: a malicious or arrogant woman (Chambers).

She was a woman: she was malicious: she was also arrogant in the extreme. What’s the problem?”

Nigger: a black person who is bad in some way.

X is a black person; X is bad in some way; X is bad in the extreme. What’s the problem?

Kike: a Jew who is bad in some way.

X is a Jew; X is bad in some way; X is bad in the extreme. What’s the problem?

  33. I applaud Anthony Malkin, and I hope he doesn’t cave in to thier barbaric demands. The Catholic church has already been one of the biggest players in the destruction of individual human rights in America (and all over the world,as far as that goes),especially since 1989 when they coerced congress and the supreme court into taking away more individual rights from American citizens, and now they want to tell someone what to do with thier own building? The only difference between Islam and Christianity is the lying, theiving, cowardly deciet of Christianity. They want to dominate the whole world more than what they claim Islam wants to, and they ALWAYS have! Why do you think they have sent thier missionaries all over the world for years trying to convert everybody to Christianity? The Evangelical Religious Right of America is no better. In fact,I think they all work together.
