LAST month the organisers of a talk scheduled to be delivered in Vienna by leading Coptic Christian Fr Zakaria Botros had to be cancelled after threats of violence were proclaimed by furious Islamists.
Hardly surprising, really, as the flamboyant Botros is no great lover of Islam – and Al-Qaeda has reportedly put a $60 million bounty on his head for bad-mouthing the demented inventor of the Religion of Peace.

The Muslim’s world’s hatred of Botros stems from the fact that he regularly savages the “prophet” Mohammed on the evangelical Arabic satellite station, al-Haya (Life TV) – especially on two weekly programmes: Hiwar al-Haq (Truth Talk), which he hosts, , and Su’al Jari’ (Daring Question), hosted by ex-Muslim Rashid.
Both shows revolve around asking uncomfortable questions about Islam and its founder in an effort to prompt Muslims to reconsider the legitimacy of their faith.
Botros, for example, has pointed out that Big Mo was a bisexual, and sometimes a transvestite and a necrophile. He apparently enjoyed sucking on the tongues of children, commanded a woman to “breastfeed” an adult man, and advised believers to drink his urine.
Nothing wrong, of course, about being bisexual or a transvestite, but as for the rest … well… eeew!
Rashid, on the other hand, recently examined the theological implications of Mo’s hatred of the Gecko lizard, which the “prophet” accused of being “an infidel and enemy of the believers”. Muslims who kill it in the first strike receive 100 “heavenly-points,” whereas those who kill it in two strikes receive only 70.

These broadcasts, according to this fascinating report, are viewed by millions of Arabic-speaking Muslims around the world. That the satellite station strikes a raw nerve with Muslims is evinced by the fact that it is formally banned in several Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, and is regularly condemned by Islam’s demagogues on mainstream Arabic media, including al Jazeera.
How great it would be great to describe Botros as rational. But alas he is not, for in this interview he says he believes that:
Only Christianity offers the truth. Based on my faith in Christ, I reject all other religious systems as man-made and thus not reflective of divine truths. Moreover, one of the greatest crimes committed by Muhammad – a crime which he shall surely never be forgiven for – is that he denied the grace and mercy that Christ brought …
He added:
But faith aside, common sense alone makes it clear that, of all the world’s major religions, Islam is most certainly false. After all, while I may not believe in, say, Buddhism, still, it obviously offers a good philosophical system and people follow it apparently for its own intrinsic worth. The same cannot be said about Islam.
Of all the religions it is the only one that has to threaten its adherents with death if they try to break away; that, from its inception, in order to “buy” followers, has been dedicated to fulfilling some of the worst impulses of man – for conquest, sex, plunder, pride. History alone demonstrates all this: while Christianity was spread far and wide by Christians who altruistically gave up their lives, simply because they believed in Christ, Islam spread by force, by the edge of the sword, by fear, threats, and lurid enticements to the basest desires of man.
Islam is by far the falsest religion—an assertion that is at once theologically, philosophically, and historically demonstrable.

As far as I can see, christianity was an adaptation of judaism, using the stories from the torah as the basis for the old testament and accepting all it’s prophets as it’s own. Most of what he says is pretty much on the nail but the blind spot concerning his own beliefs takes some believing. Christianity has certainly used plunder and sword in the past to further its ends. If stone to death, we should try to minimise the time of stoning to reduce the guilty person suffer. I know you want to trick me about this question. I am sick to death of religion assuming it deserves respect for it’s varied and ridiculous precepts. Bad ideas are bad ideas and do not deserve respect. PERIOD. You cannot demand respect for ridiculous ideas merely by calling those ideas “holy”.
I have read the Quran and found it to be full of hate, violence, misogyny, child abuse and tyranny. I READ IT. I have read some Hadith as well. Disgraceful.
If you seek to emulate Mohammed as the ideal of how to behave in this world, you’re a vicious, violent, repulsive, unreasonable, brutal, petty, sexist, child molesting rapist.
I certainly hope you’re more moral than your religion.

From your words it seems like you think people whom accept evolution,think Monkeys changed themselves into Humans instantaneously,via their own will.Whereas Darwin’s “theory”(many rationally consider it proven),describes an often slow process(though sometimes a fast process,even sometimes varying from generation to generation)of natural forces varying environmental conditions(often climatic)favouring survival and reproduction of specific individuals having particular qualities,that at that particular time,were most suited(fit)for that particular environment.Sincerely.

I am a historian on Islamic studies and I can tell you that everything this man has said is completely BS. Muhammad was perhaps even more pious than the historical Jesus (if there was one). His shortcomings were polygamy, but all his marriages were justified, his marriage with Aisha, but Aisha wanted to marry him, and his military pursuits, though in self-defense. I used to read articles on this website, since I am an atheist, but now I realize that this website is completely biased and most of its readers have no knowledge of religion, their founders, societies, history, politics, or even science. People here just base their opinions on other people’s biased opinions and you guys, frankly, seem like anti-religious radicals. Because of this website, I am now turning to religion because I now know atheism has destroyed my once moral life.

Fr Zakaria is totally wrong,wrong, wrong and WRONG about Mohammad P.B.U.H. Islam contains the best and most purest laws that protect men and women from vulgarity and immodesty. If this man is insulting Muhammad P.B.U.H, then can he, please, tell me why are hundreds of thousands of CHRISTIANS, and people belonging to other religions accepting Islam as their religion, and leaving Christianity? Islam is purest religion, so truthful, pure and fair that it has regarded other religions, including CHRISTIANITY, as only INCOMPLETE but NOT WRONG. You Christians over here,including Fr Zakaria, are so unjust, narrow-minded and full of envy and hatred. Whereas, on the other hand, we Muslims are peaceful and friendly with you Christians but it is YOU that do not want to improve relations and insult our religion. Have any of the Muslim scholars ever, ever insulted Christianity? NO, NO and NO. But let alone ordinary people, even CHRISTIAN SCHOLARS are insulting ISLAM and so YOUR HATRED, SELFISHNESS, ENVY AND ANGER is obvious.
