Angela_K – try broadening your horizons a little and take a look at some of the horror that goes on in the name of Christianity in Africa. Take a look at the abuses that used to go on in Korea and China before they modernised.

It’s superstition and ignorance, not any specifics of the religion, that do this. Religions – all religions – are used as tools by the powerful to abuse the powerless. Islam is a particular problem in the modern world because colonial history means that Islamists can portray rationality and egality as a Western imposition. They play the xenophobia card, which means they are more difficult to unseat than the lunatics from other religions around the world.

We need to understand the problem, folks.

Don, maybe it was a sloppy post of mine but the topic head was islam. All religions engage in barbarous acts but islam is, by a very long way, the worst. If you look at my posts you’ll see I have the knives out for all religions; while I dispise all religion, I reserve most of my venom for islam.

Sorry for that. I was trying to be concise and the meaning got lost along the way. Muzzies were told not to use bones or animal dung to polish their ringpieces as it was jinn food. There was an article here a while back about Pakistani xians having an Islamically offensive toilet and this was part of the discussion. As you can imagine, any article involving bogs was a source of hilarity. Link here:

I don’t see criticism, mockery, and insulting islam as xenophobic. How can that be? It is only a religion, not race, nor nationality. We will mock anything related to islam, from toilet to lil’ sheet-heads to the picture above, where there is a bra… and equally to Scientology with their great god of the all-mighty Dc-8′s and the little brothers Dc-9/Md-80′s Xenu, to the great powers of Jesus and his band of drag queens and eventually to the belief that Jedi’s actually exists.

Why should we be more defensive of islam? Just because it came from the desert and the sand people? Christianity did the same thing! The difference I see between christianity and islam is that christianity is a tiny lil’ bit less bat-shit insane than Islam. (Just in case you are still wondering, christianity is bat-shit insane)

Well, I’m on this site and he isn’t speaking for me. If it’s just me that is wrong, I can live with that.

We have a perfectly sensible article on a hideous example of religious based abuse of a helpless disturbed person. Angela K pronounces it unique to Islam and I point out that it is common in many religious societies. Someone responds with ‘Ohâ€¦defensive of islam?’ That’s a discussion?

It will do its best to employ the resources of Science, Scholarship, Philosophy and Ethics

I’m not seeing that from Angela K and drcancerman. I’m seeing knee-jerk xenophobia, such as we had with the squat toilet thread.

I do know what the Freethinker is, and its history. I value that. I am a big fan of ridicule, sarcasm and common sense. That’s the only reason I am commenting here. But sloppy thinking, bigotry and mere spite should be challenged.

Or not. That’s up to you, as you are in control.
