THE bishop at the center of allegations of a gay sex plans to step down as the pastor of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia after he delivers a sermon tomorrow.

This is a photo Bishop Long took of himself. The muscle Mary then sent it to one of his 'spiritual sons'. Click on pic to see see more of Long in Spandex
As many as 30 young men may now be considering suing Bishop Eddie Long.
The pastor at the centre of a slew of underage gay sex allegations told his congregation that gays “deserve death” during sermons in the 1990s.
Audio of a sermon by Long advocating the death penalty for gays was broadcast by The Michelangelo Signorile Show yesterday, the same day that a fourth person came forward with allegations of sex abuse against the bishop.
According to the Signorile Show, the sermon took place in the mid-1990s, at Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia. Long had published a book entitled I Don’t Want Delilah, I Need You!, which preaches traditional gender roles.
In a 2007 report, the Southern Poverty Law Center described Long as
One of the most virulently homophobic black leaders in the religiously based anti-gay movement
Three men, described as “spiritual sons” of the bishop, filed lawsuits against Long and his church this week, alleging that the bishop coerced them into sexual activity. On Friday, a fourth made similar allegations against Long, suing Long’s satellite church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
All four of the men suing Long were 17 or 18 years old at the time of the alleged incidents.
Long held a conference call with reporters Friday, before the new allegations were made public. According to CBS affiliate WGCL, the bishop didn’t deny the allegations against him.
I have never dealt with anything like this before. I have been under attack before, but everything else has been different levels and different challenges. Know that I am also praying for the families and the young men who are accusing. I always operate in the spirit of love, and we are going to move through this.

If Long wants the death penalty for gays I suggest he puts a gun to his head for starters.
@Anonymous
Long is not only gay, from his pic I see he’s left-handed. I wonder what his personal carbon footprint is?
September 25th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Isn’t that a photograph taken in a mirror? I think he’s therefore actually right handed. So at least if he maintained the position that left handed people are of the devil, he’d manage to avoid hypocrisy, yay.
I wonder if Roy Zimmerman will write a song about this guy.

Just tried it for myself, John. Looks like a spatial awareness fail on my part.
September 25th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Fear not, I had to look in a mirror myself to double check. It’s too early for me.

He’s no bishop, he hasn’t got a pointy head!
p.s. He can come round and work out with me any time.
September 25th, 2010 at 4:37 pm
@Peter Hearty
He may not have a pointy head, but he’s still a pinhead.
September 25th, 2010 at 4:37 pm
Another messenger of ‘god’ almost caught with his pants down. It is beginning to look as if every religious homophobe with his own church is a closet gay. More research, please. We don’t have too many of Eddie’s ilk over here.

@Urmensch
“He may not have a pointy head, but he’s still a pinhead.”
That’s all right, I didn’t want to talk to him.
September 25th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Ha Ha, this kind of thing happening on a regular basis is going to make life uncomfortable for any other gay-hating preachers out there. Even if there are some straight ones, everybody will be looking at them suspiciously thinking are they or aren’t they.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
Slagging off gays, particularly in the USA, is a good career move for the priests and pastors.

I see that Richard Cohen has been mentioned on this site before, in connection with both NARTH and JONAH:

Ta for the vid. I initially watched it with a mixture of incredulity and mirth but later on, gotta luv those bigoted Africans.
So the “cure” involves two gay men (Mr Dominant in denial) having a cwch on a sofa. When babi-gay feels the swelling in Dads pants, do you think he’ll “bite”?
Cohen disgusts me not just for his hypocrisy, but for what he’s doing to the woman he married. Is he yet another atheist “religiot” pursuing a business venture? I’ll bet there are loads of of African families of homosexuals willing to pay whatever it takes to “cure” their sons.

Perhaps he should do the right thing and enact the “Biblically Correct” sentence on himself.
September 25th, 2010 at 10:36 pm
I can’t help ut still but be astounded at the number of closet cases that populate the clergy of various faiths and denominations. I can’t work it out as pretty much all the gay ppl I’ve met and known are. Not prone to listening to bullshit much less believing it.
How do they sleep at night with such inner conflict?
September 25th, 2010 at 11:02 pm
“Rampant Hypocrisy” is exactly the right term for this. How fucked in the skull do you have to be to preach ‘death to gays’ of a morning and sleep with young male members of your flock of an evening? Surely a ‘preachah!’ would know hypocrisy when he saw it? ‘:-/

I’m gay myself and i don’t like what the guy says one bit. No man has the right to judge another regardless of their station in life…
But i can’t help but think that perhaps this is a cleverly organised propaganda campaign to discredit him and put him into disrepute.
And surely if they were underage at the time they would have gone to the district attorney or police (i’m british i don’t really know how the american legal system works) rather than filing the lawsuit themselves?
It all seems very suspicious to me!

Great comment that accompanies that vid:
I am tired of these “men of god” stealing in the name of the lord, dressing like pimps and driving expensive cars, taking vanity photos of yourself in muscles shirts. I am tired of people following these false prophets and attending the weekly Sunday fashion show pretending to want to worship and embrace the word. Shame on this overgrown storefront preacher. Sell your jewelry and jets and be a servant to your flock. The guy is a fake preacher with a bishop title that invented for himself.

Any research been done on what happens to the faithful after this sort of cataclysm? It’s just happened with Legion of Christ/Regnum Christi, and it must be pretty traumatic. Do former adherents transfer allegiance, or do they lose faith altogether? A few evidently hang on in there despite the odds, and you have to marvel at the self-deluding capacity of human nature, if you didn’t already.

Jack: If they’re not prepared to question their faith in the light of evidence from science, history and archaeology, they’re hardly likely to give it the elbow because of the “human failings” of what they see as a very small minority of priests, are they?

Eddie Long & Lucifer’s PRIDE
“We’re not just a church, we’re an international corporation. We’re not just a bumbling bunch of preachers who can’t talk and all we’re doing is baptizing babies. I DEAL with the White House. I DEAL with Tony Blair. I DEAL with presidents around this world. I PASTOR a multimillion-dollar congregation. You’ve got to put me on a different scale than the little black preacher sitting over there that’s supposed to be just getting by because the people are suffering.â€
–Bishop Eddie Long, New Birth Missionary Church, August 2005.
NOW READ THE WORDS OF LUCIFER;
Isaiah 14:12-15: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I WILL ascend into heaven, I WILL exalt my throne above the stars of God I WILL : sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I WILL ascend above the heights of the clouds;I WILL be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.â€
Pride comes before destruction. The words of Eddie Long and Lucifer; “Iâ€â€¦, “Iâ€â€¦, “Iâ€â€¦ are of PRIDE

That’s the reason why JESUS came. We all have fallen short of GOD’s glory.
I am not against gays but I am against sin,straight or gay.
The devil has a plan and we all can be used to help him if we obey the lust of the flesh.
Don’t judge, consider yourself less you fall into your temptation.
I was not there so i cann’t say he did it.
But GOD knows the truth and that’s all that matters.
