TOMORROW afternoon, gay rights groups are planning a protest outside the Pavilion, a public pool in the small, eastern Kentucky city of Hazard after a worker at the city-owned facility turfed out a gay couple with learning difficulties.

Apparently one of the men sat in the other’s lap, and put an arm around his partner.

But according to blogger Michelle Garcia, the Pavilion’s Carlotte Sizemore, claimed the couple were ejected for “doin’ stuff”.

And if straight people were doin’ that stuff, we’d make them leave, too.

When Garcia pressed Sizemore for more information, the conversation took a surreal turn:

Charlotte Sizemore said to me: ‘you don’t fucking know, fuck you’ and hung up on me.

Garcia added:

These two men who did nothing more than have physical contact, were verbally attacked and humiliated by a Bible thumping bigot, who illegally used religion to discriminate on city owned property. Charlotte Sizemore, by lying through her teeth to me, then attacking me, proved that the story I read in The Advocate was true.

Mr Haines, the pool official , who made the couple leave in tears, said the Bible was his authority for declaring that “gay people” weren’t allowed to swim there.

The incident  - and the news that a protest has been organised by gay rights organisations – has ignited passions, especially among the religiots.

Here are just a couple of comments gleaned from the Topix site:

Stand up And start a peaceful godly protest Hazard. Do not let the gay mafia destroy our hometown ….. Stand UP against these bullies …. Peacefully and in love. Not their kind of love but Godly love …. Show up and just pray for them ….. Be a little vocal, but counterbalance it. If I were able to be home this weekend I would be out there standing up against the gay mob – Rodger.

And:

I hope the people of Hazard will not be intimidated and stand up to your gay protest and show you what the hell they believe in and its not gays making out in front of children !!! – John.

  1. This must be the ‘heavy petting’ those safety notices at the pool warns about.

There isn’t enough information to go on here. I don’t want to see anyone indulging in sexual activity of any type when I’m immersed in the same fluid as them. But mightn’t they just have being showing affection? I think you’d have to have been there to see for yourself.

  2. Lovely, always bring kids into it when you want to protest about Gay men.

  3. So they’re obviously gay, a bit retarded, and causing trouble around Hazard. Have they got a cute cousin called Daisy? If so then I think I might know ‘em.

  4. It’s well named Hazard!

The group’s actions have led to angry e-mails, with at least one threatening that if the protest is held, Mr Palmer ‘will leave with a bullet in his head’.

  5. Looking back at my earlier post I thought I could illustrate my aversion to other people’s bodily products getting into the water I’m currently using.

I trace it to a childhood encounter with an actual human turd on the bottom of my local pool. I dove down to investigate an unusual item and got right up to it before realising what it was.

    Anyway, back to the thread.

  6. What about The Dykes of Hazard then?

  7. Mayor Sorry for Gay Disabled Couple Kicked Out of Pool

The mayor of Hazard, Ky., has apologized for a city employee’s ejection of a gay disabled couple from a public pool.

Mayor Nan Gorman, 83, told the Associated Press that the city is also investigating the incident, but no decisions have been made about the employee of the Pavilion…

“I’ve had people call from everywhere,” Gorman said. “You’d think we’ve had a murder scene up here, a massacre.”

    (Don’t get crazy, Ms Mayor)

  8. I for the life of me don’t understand why these organizations don’t fight the religious right with the same weapons. The religious peoples claim that abortion and gay people are bad because their book written by the almighty one has said so.
So why don’t they hit them back with the adultery clause in that same book. It specifically says that an adulterer is to be put to death in that book, and their God has blatantly said so.
Soooo, fight to pass a law that all actively participating Christians are to be put to death for adultery because it is their belief…no more of this pick and choose crap from them.
Half the Republican Party and many, many of the evangelistic leaders would be on death row if such a law exist…and we’d be rid of them and their cockamamie ideas.

They can’t have it both ways…abortion = BAD, gay = BAD…adultery = Well, God didn’t really mean that one, child abuse and molestation = only for the clergy.

    These fu*ken people are sick…SICK!

  10. You’re right, Marky Mark, and this hypocrisy has been going on for a VERY long time:

  11. Barrie: that bible stuff confuses me utterly. Here Moses allows divorce, later Yeshue forbids it completely (“what dog hath joined together” etc etc) yet also says “not one jot or tittle of the law shall pass away before these things come to pass…”

Talk about eating your cake and having it. It can really be anyway you want it if you know the right quote to use….
