In a 20-minute video obtained by CBS affiliate KBOI, Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez says that not for nothing does he look like Jesus, and:
I am the modern day Jesus Christ that you all have been waiting for.
According to this report, the video was apparently made by a fellow student at Idaho State University and features Ortega rambling about various issues. At one point he talks about Nostradamus and receiving a:
Message through time.
He also claims that his deceased grandfather is his guardian angel, and talks about drugs, Zion and the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week. He also says sex is “for fun”, and that marijuana was created “to inspire”. If we all just smoked pot and stopped drinking beer, we’d become “hungry for knowledge” and invent stuff to fill “all these empty shipping vessels”.
If convicted, the lunatic could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, and a fine of $250,000.

Well, he is right about the sex bit!

I suppose the fact that no one knows what Jesus (if he existed) looked like shouldn’t get in the way. I have met fundies who insist Jesus spoke English and was white and they know he was white because that is how he appears in all the paintings.

I am the modern day Jesus Christ you have all been waiting for.
I’ve been waiting for a book I ordered to tip up, but I don’t remember having ordered a messiah. Still, isn’t it amazing what you can get from Amazon these days.

Students,eh? Probably studying for a Phd in f*ckwittery.

Couldn’t watch the inane drivel.

We had a president here in ‘Murca who was convinced that his (mal-)administration had Messianic impact. All of them bring god into the deal, which causes me considerable unease. So, it’s not just the drug-addled and brain-shorted who are delusional.
Folks like this guy are easy to malign.. not so easy to treat.
But there are some effective anti-psychotics that can help.

Very easy to malign. He’s a fucking dickhead. Why he was encouraged and filmed I do not know.
He gives pot heads a bad name.

Half-right. We’d be hungry, but not for knowledge.

This man seems paranoid. However, there are the dangerously deluded politicians, for example in the USA, who are convinced that they are responding to god’s wishes and whose world view is formed by these religious delusions.
Or what about Ratzinger and his apparent convictions about celibate priests, Aids, contraception and readiness to see an overcrowded planet being swamped by even greater numbers?

If, as he appears to be, this guy is genuinely mentally ill, I don’t really think that it is appropriate to be making fun of him. It seems to me that he needs help and possibly treatment. Broga makes a good point about politicians and religious leaders that are dangerously deluded and do real harm in the real world, these people need all the criticism and mocking that we can manage.

Speaking of politicians and religious leaders being dangerously deluded, the BHA has a petition running to demand that the government stops creationism and ‘intelligent design’ from being taught by religiots as science in publicly-funded schools, including ‘faith’ schools, religious Academies and religious Free Schools.
I would urge everyone to add their names to it.
November 21st, 2011 at 6:44 pm
BTW. The BHA is also asking the likes of our good selves to email our respective MPs to question the proposed decision to give Bishops even more privileges in the House of Lords – including (unbelievably), exemption from ‘provisions on serious offence, and those on expulsion and suspension’.
If you would like to help by lobbying your MP, you can do so here.

@Stonyground: I think this sad man is clinically mentally ill. The bad news for him is that in many of the States in the USA, and notoriously Texas where the infamous christian Rick Perry is governor, his illness will gain him no understanding. Texas and other states are ready, even enthusiastic, about executing the mentally ill. Texas has a particular enthusiasm for filling its notorious Death Row with black, poor, poorly educated (often illiterate) inmates.
But to come to your other point about religious USA politicians. These are often Republicans and they have an authoritarian mindset which leads them to reject anything which challenges their already solidified opinions. The same applies to Ratzinger and the Vatican.

I didn’t watch the video, as he clearly seems to be mentally ill. If his delusions didn’t involve religion then they would centre around something else.
Talking of the Lords, Conservative peers are going to oppose the new rules on civil partnerships:

This chap really lends credence to the idea that man and dinosaurs co-existed.
A photo of Jesus in Fred Flintstone’s house will do that, you know.
