THE Military Atheists & Secular Humanists at Fort Bragg (MASH) today rallied supporters to show their disapproval of an “awful” North Carolina Baptist preacher who recently advocated violence against kids thought to be gay.
According to the Freethoughts blog, Priscilla, the new MASH leader, secured a permit for members to protest outside Pastor Sean Harris’s Berean Baptist Church. It was reported the local Humanist organisation, CNCAH would be bringing out their members too.
See more on church the picketing of the church here.

Naturally we’ll hear all about how he’s being persecuted by the Militant Atheists, blah blah blah. Sick piece of offal.
Buffy
Yeah, it’s odd how advocating violence, or too often actually using it, is seen as fine by many religious folk, but talking and waving placards is somehow persecution. They just so want to be persecuted that they have to find it, even if it doesn’t exist.
If he wants to be persecuted, let’s fulfil his dream for him.
May be a bit hard for him on that score, Buffy, in that there is at least one xtian group joining MASH in the protest.
Won’t stop them trying, of course.
On a purely superficial note: Who photoshopped his hair on? Made a right old mess of it, they did.
Pastor Sean Harris: Trashier as parson. Not often you can find one as apt as that!
Quite a change, isn’t it. In the past the preachers have had it all their own way: say what they like, do what they want, expect either approval or indifference. Now they are confronted with opposing views. And not just opposing views but the kind of criticism that draws attention, stirs up unfavourable publicity for them and leads at least to partial retraction of what they said. People now have placed before them what these bigots actually think and say.
What a blessed thing is the internet. Brilliant.
We need more people in religion like Sean Harris. Every time bigots like him open their mouths in public it must make people, if even briefly, question their beliefs.
And that cannot be a bad thing.
Rev. Harris is partially right. Partially, because he doesn’t go far enough. The Bible doesnt say crack the wrist or punch a gay child. The Bible clearly states that gay men and disobedient children are to be put to death (Leviticus 18:22 – kill gay men. Matthew 15:4 – kill disobedient children. Luke 16:17 – God’s laws are eternal). He got caught saying aloud a weak version of what every Bible on the planet for hundreds of years has said boldly in print. Let Rev. Harris’ words be an entering wedge for a greater criticism on Christianity. He is the sour fruit of a poison tree.
Cue the complaints that this pastor is the one being bullied in 3, 2, 1…
Berean Baptist: Beat brain pest
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11 NIV)
Be certain not to miss Songs of Praise today, presented for a change by one of the heavyweights of British broadcasting – Eammon Holmes. Those lamenting the fact that they will be missing their weekly fix of Aled Jones might like to reflect on the fact that he is to be Adrian Chiles’s new replacement on the well-worn sofa of Daybreak. Something for us all to look forward to, I’m sure.

This is Billy Graham territory:

Yuk, Billy frelling Graham.
Guys’s a bloody idiot, and his fans appear to be morons.
Oh, dear, Daz. Wayne-man thinks that “marriage has always been religious”!
Not nice comments are sometimes edited.
Hahahahaha!!!!!
Can the next generation of children hope to have a father in their family? In their lives? Can they hope to have a mother who loves them as well?
My four nieces didn’t have a mother in their lives because when they were aged beween eighteen months and eight years of age his kind, all-loving, merciful god took her away from them with breast cancer. Is there any point in trying to reason with these imbeciles?
No, but I keep trying anyway. I must be a sucker for punishment.
BTW: When AIDS first burst upon the scene Billy Graham was quick to announce that this was God’s judgment upon the gay community and “lifestyle”. When his remarks attracted adverse publicity he was equally quick to explain how he, too, had been completely misunderstood!
Amazing, isn’t it, how often religious speakers are ‘misunderstood’ after speaking plain sentences in their native tongue. Maybe someone needs to provide Gideon’s Grammar Guides in hotel rooms…
