Multi-tasking Florida pastor arrested for watching kiddy porn while writing an Easter sermon

PASTOR Cedric Eugene Cuthbert of St James African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sanford was arrested last week  for watching child porn on his work computer at a Disney resort.

Cuthbert, according to this report, was allegedly alternating between writing his Easter sermon and watching videos of young girls engaged in graphic sex acts while working the night shift at the resort.

Disney’s monitoring system takes screen shots of employee computers every three seconds and recorded Cuthbert writing his church sermon on John chapter 13 verses 1-35 and Psalm 148 while loading pornographic YouTube videos involving teenage girls.

WFTV was at the jail when Cuthbert posted bail and was released last Thursday morning. Cuthbert would not comment when asked:

Pastor, what do you have to say about you actions?

Cuthbert, 49, faced a judge on charges of soliciting a child for unlawful sexual conduct and possession of a sexual performance by a child.

He was employed at Disney World’s Port Orleans Resort as a housekeeping manager for more than seven years but has since been sacked.

On April 24, Disney’s computer software alerted authorities that Cuthbert was allegedly looking at young girls performing sex acts on YouTube and asking them for more material.

Members of the church were said to be “floored” when they found out he’d been accused of looking at child porn online.

Neighbor Shirlene Smith was shocked:

You’ve got to be kidding. And his wife is a minister, too.

Cuthbert’s wife, who is an executive minister at the church on Cyprus Street, wouldn’t answer the door to reporters.

Investigators said Cuthbert communicated with underage girls through YouTube, sending messages like, “You are so cute! Keep makin’ vids!”

Last Wednesday night, the pastor’s church posted on their Facebook page that they wouldn’t tolerate any more negative posts connected with the incident.

It’s unclear if Cuthbert’s victims could have stretched to his congregation as well, said WFTV. A church representative said it will be dealt with, but as of Wednesday the church still listed Cuthbert as senior minister on its website.

WFTV found out the pastor had interaction with kids, not only through his church and job, but also his children’s Cub Scouts programme.

I have to say I’m some-what skeptical about this. I have a suspicion that the videos probably weren’t pornographic but merely suggestive.

The fact that these videos are on YouTube, for me, with their monitoring software, is suggestive.

We are currently going for a an IT security ISO certification and one of the books I’m reading about it asks the question of “Could a photo of an employees kids in the bath, stored on that employees laptop, be considered child porn?” I feel there might be a hint of that about this story.

Of course, I’m happy to be proven wrong.

@AgentCormac: Good news about the Girl Guides. It was on the main Radio 4 news this morning. Shame they didn’t also remove the nonsense about serving the Queen. What does that mean anyway? The removal of mention of God indicates yet again the growth and influence of a sceptical population.

  4. Trevor Blake says:

I think Disney’s monitoring software is off. Pastor Cuthbert was clearly reading Numbers 31:1-18, in which God almighty condones sex with underage girls. Or perhaps Pastor Cuthbert is a secret Muslim, reading about Mohammed having sex with nine year old Aisha?

According to chief rabbi Jonathan Sacks, however, ‘atheism has failed’ and ‘only religion can defeat the new barbarians’. Follow the link below and it will take you to the most ghastly and profoundly stupid article you are ever likely to read.

Thanks for the link, Daz. That’s an excellent repost to Sacks, who has to be one of the most smug, condescending and sanctimonious proponents of religion in Britain today. And that’s saying something!

It looks as if he was contacting people via their YouTube accounts and asking them to send him pornographic material. He is said to have attempted to access forbidden sites:

You don’t have to be stupid to be religious but it helps!

Wow, Disney has changed. Oh, wait a sec, bloody English.

  12. Broga says:

AC and Daz: Thanks to you both. Sacks is a humbug. He has a job to keep and this is what he thinks he needs to do to keep it. His article was offensive to me as an atheist and his comments a farrago of mind numbing hokum as, yet again, he sought to justify what we must assume are his beliefs. Sacks desperation to find something, anything, to support his unsupportable opinion was painfully clear. When someone is reduced to this I almost feel sorry for him. Jerry Coyne did a great job in skinning him in literary terms.

    More on that Jonathan Sacks.

Cedric is obviously a halfwit for watching this on Disney computers, regardless of the specifics. I barely go online at all at my workplace. I never watch anything remotely resembling kiddie porn (but then, I’m not a hypocritical conservative twat) and I barely go online at all at work.

  14. Mark Moore says:

Christianity does not improve behavior. It provides an imaginary god to forgive whatever is perpetrated no mater how vile or how many people are harmed.

As in this case, if you get your morals from God you have a poor role model. – “Kill all the men Kill all the women that have slept with a man and keep all the virgins for yourselves.”

Compared to God this guy is a saint.
