Christian clowns Rick Joyner and Dutch Sheets want a military takeover of the US

AMIDST the current chaos in Washington a leader of the newly emerging, re-organised Religious Right who has ties to prominent Tea Party Republicans has just called for a “military takeover”.

Morningstar Ministries head Rick Joyner – described here as “a leading prophet and apostle in the theocratic movement known as the New Apostolic Reformation publicly issued a call for a coup – a “military takeover” of the United States government and the imposition of martial law.

In a 2007 prophecy Joyner gave in tandem with  fellow wingnut, “apostle” Dutch Sheets, the lunatic explained, in a subsection titled “The Coming Kingdom”:

The kingdom of God will not be socialism, but a freedom even greater than anyone on earth knows at this time. At first it may seem like totalitarianism, as the Lord will destroy the antichrist spirit now dominating the world with ‘the sword of His mouth’ and will shatter many nations like pottery. However, fundamental to His rule is II Corinthians 3:17, ‘Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty’. Instead of taking away liberties and becoming more domineering, the kingdom will move from a point of necessary control while people are learning truth, integrity, honor, and how to make decisions, to increasing liberty so that they can. In a September 30 broadcast, Joyner said:

I mean, there’s no way our Republic can last much longer. It may not last through Obama’s second term. There are a lot of people that feel, you know, it can’t. There are forces right now seeking to undermine and to destroy the Republic. There’s almost a glib and almost a joyful disregard of the constitution, and a belittling of the constitution. We can’t make it without that – that’s our foundation, our moorings. We’re heading for serious tyranny.

I think we’ve been used in some wonderful and powerful ways by God, we’ve been one of the most generous nations in history, we’ve done so much good – and that’s why I appeal to the Lord – don’t let us be totally destroyed. Please, raise up those who will save us. And as I start telling friends from a long time that no election’s going to get the right person in there that can restore us because the system is so broken, so undermined right now – the whole system.

I believe our only hope is a military takeover: martial law.

After Obama was elected for the second time, Dutch Sheets said said “God would not be mocked” and:

I certainly believe America is and will continue to reap judgment. And I believe the fruit from the reelection of Barack Obama will be our most severe judgment to date. Let us not forget that the political party Americans just voted back into power boldly favors abortion, homosexuality, homosexual marriage, and that they voted God and the support of Israel out of their platform. And. I might add, booed when God was put back in the platform after the potential fallout was realized. God is not mocked, however, and will have the last word.

In an interview with former Reagan Administration lawyer Michael “Mikey” Weinstein –who formed the civil rights watchdog organization the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) after discovering a pattern of coercive evangelizing at his former alma mater, the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs – Weinstein said his organisation estimated that between 28 percent and 34 percent of officers and NCOs in the United States military were adherents to a supremacist form of Christianity known as dominionism who might back or at least be sympathetic to evangelist Joyner’s call for a coup.

It is a terrible mistake to dismiss Joyner as merely fringe. The opposite is true.

Weinstein emphasised that there are dozens of dominionist evangelical para-church organizations engaging in what MRFF views as predatory evangelizing in the military. “Complacency is complicity,” warned Weinstein, who called Rick Joyner’s call for a military takeover a “red line” and also a “wretched” form of “sedition”.

Weinstein added:

We are most concerned about a fusion between dominionist Christianity and the military’s weapons of mass destruction.

Because that what Jesus would do

  2. Broga says:

These clowns have lost the plot but their message will appeal to many in the USA. For a start Obama is black and to many Americans that makes him inferior to whites. This is an easy way to be superior. You may be a thicko redneck barely able to read and Obama may be a highly intelligent, cultured and civilised black but he is still regarded as inferior.

Obama has also committed the serious crime of actually trying to get health care to ordinary Americans. There is a massive and highly paid lobby, shovelling cash to politicians, to ensure that the billionares running the insurance industry keep their monopoly. So many Americans don’t realise they are been spun lies about so called socialist medicine.

However, we in the UK can’t afford to be smug. The religious lobby, despite the apathy of the population, still keeps a grip on the government and the media. They have no real basis for this but they spin their propaganda and our politicians are too cowardly and self serving to confront them.

  3. AgentCormac says:

Bloody hell, that article you linked to on dominionism is scary stuff, Barry. Some of them believe that “…Christians have a mandate to take dominion over every area of life”. WTF? Mind you, I imagine Hutton and Birdshit would think it’s all perfectly reasonable, given it’s xtian nutjobs saying it rather than the muslim variety.

  4. mikespeir says:

    “We’re heading for serious tyranny.”

And anybody who knows anything about Church history understands tyranny.

With my prophet’s hat now on, I make these predictions:

    1. The American republic will continue to stand, pretty much as is, throughout and well beyond Obama’s term, and

    2. God will continue to be mocked and He’ll somehow learn to live with it.

Let’s see who’s the better prophet.

  5. Graham Martin-Royle says:

Funny how similar fundy christians and fundy muslims are when it comes to politics. They both believe that a totalitarian government based on their particular prejudices would be the absolute best government ever.

  6. Angela_K says:

History has shown that religion hates democracy and that it can only survive by bullying or worse [the bullet and bomb being favourites]. Totalitarianism is the creed of the religious with a “if you are not with us, you are against” mentality; and if the religious are challenged, they always squeal “persecution, my sincerely held belief [to be stupid and a bigot] must be protected”.

  7. Organizm says:

They squeal like pigs at a slaughter because they know we’re coming for them. Their time it over and they can sense it in their tiny porcine brains even if they lack the cognitive skills to understand why they are being minimized and eventually forgotten like their meaningless god. I love it when they squeal!

  8. Steve Jackson says:

Armageddon? Armageddon out of here :)

  9. Steve Jackson says:

    @ Angela_K

    Agreed.

  10. Trevor Blake says:

Jesus said: “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.” (Luke 19:27)

And He shall be called the Prince of Peace – by liars and the ignorant.

  11. Bob says:

Reply to agent Cormac: No, I don’t hold to dominion theology. I believe in the separation of church and state providing Christians have free speech to preach the Gospel and express biblical views on the issues of the day.

  12. Bruce Martin says:

Um, I’m no legal expert but isn’t inciting overthrow of the government like a no-no?? I mean you have freedom of speech but no freedom is limitless. Such as I can’t run into a movie theater and yell fire, even if I believe in the fire god Vulcanus and am asking for his blessing. I will be arrested and rightly put in jail.

So I can’t listen to certain words on the radio because some Baptist minister in Mississippi was offended but these nut jobs can spew out whatever hateful, bigoted, sexist, misogynistic rants they want to. Okay that sounds fair.

  13. Matt+Westwood says:

I’d shed a tear, but here in the UK we have our own fascist dictatorship to overthrow.

  14. charlie says:

These rat bastards claim to be “patriots”. Calling for an armed revolt is unlawful, a crime, basically treason. They should be arrested and prosecuted.
One can be critical of the gummint here in the US of A, but you cannot call for the violent overthrow of the elected gummint and get off scott free. Unless the entire Constitution and US law have changed radically since my high school civics days. Admittedly, that was 1965, so I may be way out of date.
These clowns are the least “patriotic” assholes and even out do the idiot Glenda Beckie and Slush Limpburger in my opinion.

  15. Matt+Westwood says:

Calling for armed revolt is treason? Surely not.

What *is* treason, and deservedly so, is the act of walking in a national park which has been closed by the government because the Republicans have refused to agree budget.

  16. Ian says:

I must be missing something (again) but if God WILL do something in the future to rid the world of ‘the anti-Christ spirit’, why wait.

    DO IT NOW!

Or, is there something wrong with my logic?

  17. Broga says:

Of course when their God takes over by, it has to be said, somewhat convoluted means the Christian patriots will be calling the shots and living high on the hog. With the budget impasse, supported and demanded by Tea Party type religious clowns, the USA seems to be heading for disaster. The tragedy, and the word is appropriate, is that so many people who neither wanted nor welcome their activities are suffering. But then the religious view is, “To hell with anyone else’s opinion. We know best.”

  18. Deez says:

    As nuts as Muslim extremists

  19. OurSally says:

Dutch Sheets! Somebody called their kid Dutch Sheets?

  20. Barry Duke says:

Goes to prove, OurSally, shee-it really does happen! Good job his surname wasn’t Caps.

  21. Broga says:

@OurSally: Dutch Sheets. Perhaps they had studied social science about which I share you opinion. I have a relative who studied social science and he has a fine line in gobbledegook which allows him to analyse and solve all the world’s problems.

  22. barriejohn says:

Ian: If it’s God’s immutable will, then human intervention is pointless and unnecessary. As Pete and Dud said: “If God has ordained that you are going to be run over by a bus today, then one will come in through those doors, drive down the aisle and onto the stage, and run you over”.

  23. Matt+Westwood says:

I thought Dutch Sheets was when you dropped one in bed and fluffed the covers up over the head of your partner.
