Lily-livered YouTube caves in to Muslim pressure
MUSLIMS threw a wobbly recently over a Katy Perry video that they branded “blasphemous”, and a petition was set up to have it removed from YouTube.
Today we learn that, although the video of Katy Perry’s latest single ‘Dark Horse‘ has not been removed, the bit that was deemed “offensive” to idolators of the “Prophet” Mohammed has been removed.
It showed the zapping of an Allah pendant worn by a character in the video.
This, according to the petition set up by Shazad Iqbal of Bradford, was tantamount to “blasphemy”:
Blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video, since Katy Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believer and the word God in flames.
More than 50,000 people signed the online petition which Iqbal says he launched because:
People from different walks of life, different religions and from different parts of the world, agree that the video promotes blasphemy, using the name of God in an irrelevant and distasteful manner [that] would be considered inappropriate by any religion.
Today the censorious zealot is cock-a-hoop:

This clearly shows that our voice has been heard, having gained so much publicity on the matter and by getting everybody talking we have put the message out there that such inappropriate material will not be accepted.
Meanwhile, it is reported here that a US appeals court yesterday ordered Google Inc to remove from its YouTube video-sharing website an anti-Islamic film that had sparked protests across the Muslim world.
By a 2-1 vote, a panel of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Google’s assertion that the removal of the film Innocence of Muslims amounted to a prior restraint of speech that violated the US Constitution.

Every time some organisation like You-tube or Google capitulate to the religious nutters we lose some more of our freedom and the religious stormtroopers are emboldened. Cowards!
This is a perfect example of the wolves chasing the sled. In the snowy wilds a man realised that a pack of starving wolves was chasing his sled. He decided he could escape by throwing chunks of meat at them. The result was the opposite. The wolves were being rewarded. Their pursuit was being encouraged.
It is the same with this example. Yielding to the demands of arrogant muslims merely encourages ever greater demands. Whatever they are given will never be enough. The judges sentencing of Lee Rigby’s killers got it right. If he had handed out lenient sentences the message would be clear. “We are fireproof. They won’t touch us.”
Having said that, I thought the behaviour of that pair of killers was a most brutal example of the way religion can destroy decency, kindness and civilised values and replace them with pitiless behaviour.
The sight of that misguided man clutching his Quoran and mouthing his howls of religious gibberish had a pathos all of its own. Perhaps in the long decades of incarceration he may come to wonder where his God is when he has been so abandoned.
So the professionally offended get their way again! Obviously, all you have to do is invoke some figment of your feeble minded imagination and the world bends to your crazed views. Well done YouTube…grow some balls ffs!!

It beggars belief that they have caved in to this. It was a bit of bling, a chunk of costume jewellery, an irrelevant and meaningless detail in a silly pop promo and yet in the minds of the perpetually insulted it takes on such ludicrous significance. ‘OMG! One of the two-dozen glitzy pendants that model is wearing looks like it could have some religious connotations ! And they just turned the guy to sand! Call the fucking church police! Burn! Kill! Interesting that this was removed, while complaints about a very crude image of a rat with a Star of David on its back (part of some cranky campaign labelling Judaism ‘the real problem’)appear to have not contravened Facebook ‘community standards’ – at least according to the ‘judgement’ sent to a friend who pointed it out to them.
Juts as one judge stands up for the American Constitution along come two others who abandon it.

@barriejohn: Some seriously “detached from reality” information in that Guardian article. Mowing down in a car an unsuspecting man and then butchering him is apparently “a military Strike.” These characters seem more like cowards dressing up their cowardice as courage.
We also have the usual religious insight, denied to atheists, into the mind of God and what God wants. How is this information delivered? I suspect this pair had fantasied themselves into heroes and had not considered the consequences. These consequences will now have become something of a shock.
They are also dupes. Those who stoke up these attacks keep well clear themselves. The government wants to know what leads men (it’s usually men) to behave like this. I would offer the government another approach. A well funded, intense, widely available system of teaching how to assess religion objectively. In other words encouraging an enthusiasm for secularism and a respect for facts and rational thought.

The god of Islam isn’t the God of Heaven the Father and creater of all of us. He sent His one and only Son to be a sacrific for the sins of all peoples, be they rock stars or muslims, or any others of any religous background, it isn’t religon that saves the soul, its faith in Jesus and repentance for the forgivness of sins that saves the soul.
So muslims that signed that petision, didn’t prove anything exept how little they know about God. they showed how idolatrous they are to make a fuss about a trinket they don’t worship God by faith they worship Mohamud and the Kaabaa and all the shrines and stuff made by men. these things don’t please God.
What is involved here is mind control. Only muslims know what is acceptable or not acceptable. And what they decide is not acceptable is not acceptable because they have made that decision. The encroachment into free speech continues and any idea that apologies or retreating will satisfy them is misguided.
Let them think and say what they want to think and say. And let the rest of us do the same. But no, it’s all one way. However much an atheist is offended by religious behaviour counts for nothing. Yet any concern from the religious lobby and retreat follows.

On a thread entitled ‘Weep at this photograph of thousands of Syrians trapped in the Damascus district of Yarmouk made into Hell on earth’, I submitted a comment which contained nothing more than the following quote from Greek philosopher Epicurus:

Apparently a follow-up comment I left (again not published) which basically told Nick he was a dick for censoring anything but comments which conform to his own delusional view that his church is infallible, met with a response that included the following:

@AgentCormac: Glad to know you are an Epicurus enthusiast – as I am. He came to be much misunderstood, and maligned, as a lover of luxury. The fact is he was quite the opposite.

I honestly believe that if Epicurus were alive today he would be an enthusiastic contributor to sites such as The Freethinker. He had no time for the concept of deity and was of the view that life should be enjoyed in peace and freedom, safe from the kind of fear that religion propagates. As such, I guess you could say he was the founder of Humanism. We need more people like Epicurus in the world.
As for the Deacon Nick, visit his loathsome little blog and you’ll soon discover what brand of loving, caring christianity he represents. You’ll soon realise the revolting creep would love nothing more than to bring back the Inquisition and burn anybody (catholics included) who don’t conform to his neo-nazi ideology.
