THE prize for the best caption is a copy of a new novel entitled 13:24 – A Story of Faith and Obsession by Florida-based M Dolon Hickmon who recently contributed to our “My Atheism” section. He is a writer, novelist and children’s rights activist. As a survivor of religiously motivated child abuse, his writing on the intersections of faith and child maltreatment has been featured in diverse forums.
His novel is an expose of religiously motivated child abuse, packaged as a rock-and-roll murder mystery. The book is bringing the plight of religiously mistreated kids to a huge audience of crime fiction readers, and has received a great reception. Publishers Weekly will feature him in an author Q&A next month.
He will shortly be reviewing Dan Arel’s soon-to-be-published book, Parenting Without God, for the Freethinker.

The runner-up prize is a copy of Mitchell Stephen’s Imagine There’s No Heaven: How Atheism Helped Create the Modern World.
Reviewing this book for Times Higher Education, Gavin Hyman wrote:
Atheism has brought deliverance from tyranny, intolerance, ignorance and bigotry, and many of the values we most treasure today – free enquiry, human dignity, equality and democracy – would scarcely have been conceivable without the invaluable contributions of atheistic thinkers, writers and activists stretching back through centuries of Western history. Stephens delves deeply into this history and constructs a narrative that shows the central importance of atheistic thought for human cultural achievement.
