Barbaric anti-gay sharia law proposed

Barbaric anti-gay sharia law proposed

If an Islamic draft law is passed this week in Indonesia, people caught having gay sex could be publicly caned.

Aceh province lawmaker Moharriadi Syafari  is reported here as saying that a majority of provincial legislators supported criminalising gay sex. They are debating the law with a view to passing it and several others regulating personal behavior before Friday, the last day of the current assembly.

Gay rights activist King Oey said Wednesday he will urge the central government to use its influence to get the bill scrapped or appeal to the country’s Constitutional Court.

He said:

There is no room to talk about this democratically in Aceh because once someone expresses an objection he or she will immediately be branded ‘anti-Islam’ The only way to stop it is at the national level, particularly at the level of the minister of home affairs.

If the law is passed by the 69-member assembly, it must be signed by the Aceh governor before it can take effect.

Indonesia’s secular central government granted Aceh the right to implement shariah law in 2006 as part of a peace deal to end a separatist war. A religious police and court system have been established.

The central government doesn’t have the power to strike down a provincial law, but it can ask Aceh to reconsider legislation.

The region canes people found guilty of adultery, gambling and consuming alcohol. Females wearing tight clothes can be fined, as can people who skip Friday prayers.

Aceh is considered more devout than elsewhere in Muslim-majority Indonesia, but the level of support for the implementation of the laws is unclear.

The articles on gay sex are included in a revised package of Islamic laws being considered by the government. An earlier section that called for people to be stoned to death for adultery has been dropped from the latest version. Syafari said this was because of complaints from the central government.

The draft says anal sex between men would be punished by up to 100 lashes of the cane, and that females found guilty of “rubbing” their vaginas or other body parts together for sexual pleasure would also be liable for caning.

It doesn’t mention other sex acts, raising questions over whether the region’s clerics considered the acts acceptable or even how much thought had gone into the drafting of the laws. Syafari acknowledged that this was a potential weakness, but there was still time for the draft to be modified.

Indonesia’s criminal code doesn’t regulate homosexuality. There is considerable tolerance in some sections of society toward gays, but few live openly. The country has become more religiously conservative over the last 20 years, and hardliners frequently seek to disrupt activities by gay rights groups.

Religion is a cancer in society, and Islam is one of its most virulent and deadly manifestations.

As most of the Western World moves on daily, the Eastern World moves backward a couple of centuries. And Barack Obama tries to make out that religions do not tolerate this sort of violence – well, this is religion, and they seem to tolerate this.

Am I mistaken but didn’t Aceh receive bucketfuls of western aid when they had a tsunami? I seem to remember the western press going bananas over these poor people. Perhaps we should have left them alone to perform whatever barbaric acts their death cult told them and left them to be rescued by their mythical “god”.

Here’s a couple of jokes about islamic countries. I forgot where I got them from. Two signs at the Riyad airport in Saudi Arabia

“Welcome to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 1300 years of history unimpeded by progress”.

“Welcome to the Kingdom of saudi Arabia. set your clocks back 1300 years’.

    LMAO

  5. Jeffrey Jones says:

Yeah, Newspaniard, Ache was about the worst area hit by the tsunami. Unfortunately it wasn’t hit hard enough.

  7. It always amazes me how many atheist lefties always stick up for Muslims, even though it is self-evident that, in the modern world, it is this belief system that is most likely to spur vast numbers of people to commit barbaric acts, or tacitly approve of them through a failure to condemn those acts, unequivocally. Tatchell, Livingstone, Galloway – all have embarrassed themselves by sucking up to Muslims and by trying to claim that the barbarism we witness daily on our TV screens “has nothing to do with Islam”. Yeah right – like the IRA bombing campaign had nothing to do with Irish republicanism! Nor is this just “a few fanatics with a twisted interpretation of Islam” as Tatchell claimed on Channel 4 this week. Muslim violence and the passive aggression of the Muslim majority who do virtually nothing to condemn what is being done in the name of their religion, is now a pandemic across the globe. As a general rule of thumb, the most extreme practising Christian or Jew roughly equates to the most moderate practising Muslim. This is by far the most inhuman, dangerous and foul of the Abrahamic faiths.

  8. LET ME RESPOND THIS WAY. AS A HETEROSEXUAL ATHEIST ALCOHOLIC GAMBLER THAT HAS HAD 2 DIVORCES BECAUSE I LUSTED AFTER WOMEN IN TIGHT CLOTHES THAT WANTED TO RUB THEIR GENITALS AGAINST ME, THE CHANCES OF ME VISITING THIS PLAYBOY PARADISE ARE 1000 TO 1.IN CANADA GAY MARRIAGE HAS BEEN LEGAL SINCE 2005 & THESE RELIGITARDS IN ACEH WANT TO CANE PEOPLE! I GUESS THE OBVIOUS QUESTION IS HOW DO YOU ENFORCE THIS? ARE THERE CAMERAS IN EVERY BEDROOM OR ARE YOU ON THE HONOUR SYSTEM! NEVER MIND SETTING YOUR WATCHES BACK 1300 YRS, SET YOUR PHASERS ON STUNNED!

I don’t blame the people of Indonesia any more than I blame the people of the UK for continuing to support a Conservative government (there are many — because of course it is the direct fault of the Liberal Democrats that the bad things are happening to the Welfare State, and by extension, the deliberate fault of those who did not vote Conservative).

Demagogues rise up and people support them. “That typhoon, it was all the fault of the gays! Rise up against them and everything will be all right again!” To wish the Indonesian people more misery is unworthy, especially from people whose governments are so enlightened that they e.g. let their police run around shooting anybody they want, or e.g. leave state dependents completely destitute for failing to attend pointless piffling meetings deliberately scheduled before they were notified of them, or allowing disabled and helpless people to be beaten to death because the government encouraged people to view them as worthless, selfish scroungers.

Once you’re removed the shit from your own eyes are you able to see to extract the speck of dust from your neighbour’s.

  10. Matt Westwood – what an extraordinary rant! But hardly an original one. Our police do not “run around shooting anybody they want” – they occasionally make mistakes in which innocent people (and not-so-innocent people) get hurt or killed . David Cameron has actively promoted gay marriage in the UK, at some considerable cost to himself in terms of his natural supporters’ approval ratings. Disabled people beaten to death? What planet are you on? Or have you taken drugs to escape the daily horrors and misery of living in the United Kingdom where our kids are routinely raped and beheaded on their way to school? Get a grip man. Hysterical.

    @Diesel Balaam

“Moderates arn’t doing anything”…Right. The moderates are by enlarge middle class well-educated people. Who raise children and work for a living. Like most Xtians in western countries. basically they go to church or Mosque on sunday or whatever day.

It’s the lean and hungry young lions that are fired up for radicalism. The ones from poor countries. they are the movers and shakers in any ideology.

  12. Matt Westwood says:

@Diesel Balaam: I was referring not necessarily to the UK, but also the US. The American police are completely out of control. They can, literally, shoot anybody they feel like (and those people are usually black, of course) with impunity.

And apologies, it was in the US this happened, not the UK:

Before attempting to enter a debate, please try and learn how to be polite.

Sheesh, it seems odd that I have to defend our government, but I think you would be hard pressed to find some evidence that the government is “allowing disabled and helpless people to be beaten to death because the government encouraged people to view them as worthless, selfish scroungers.”

Additionally the prosecutor threw the book at these thugs, they were not let off easy.
