‘We don’t want your sort in Australia’

Troy Newman, a deranged American anti-abortion activist who has called for doctors who perform terminations to be executed for murder, has been blocked from entering Australia.

Newman is the head of anti-abortion organisation Operation Rescue and was due to speak in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Hobart and Cairns over the next fortnight at events run by the group Right To Life Australia.

But in a statement, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton confirmed Mr Newman’s visa had been cancelled. He said:

Mr Newman can appeal for a revocation of this decision and no further comment will be made during this appeal period.

In a Facebook post, Mr Newman expressed his anger at the decision.

The Australian Government has revoked my visa in mid-flight.

Newman said he “was pulled off a plane in Denver” and told he could not travel to Los Angeles and then on to Melbourne.

The “pro-life” campaigner also posted a video of an awkward exchange with airport staff in Colorado.

Please pray for me, I’m stuck in Denver airport like a man without a country.

In a statement, Right To Life Australia spokeswoman Mary Collier said:

We are all very upset that this has happened and are working furiously to turn it around.

But Sarah Ryan, co-vice president of pro-choice group Reproductive Choice Australia, said she was pleased with the decision.

While Reproductive Choice Australia supports the right of freedom of expression and believes people are entitled to their own opinions, we believe there is no place in Australia for extremist views like Troy Newman’s.

Several Australian politicians, including Labor backbencher Terri Butler, had called for Newman to be banned from entering the country. Butler said:

I am concerned that Mr Newman’s presence in Australia will cause significant harm to our community,” Ms Butler said in a letter to the Immigration Minister.

I am most concerned that Mr Newman’s call for abortionists to be executed could lead to threats or the commission of acts of violence against women and medical professionals.

Newman is the co-author of the book Their Blood Cries Out, which was published in 2000.

In the book he questions why doctors who perform abortions are not executed and asks why women or men who request the procedure are not charged with murder.

Now, is he inciting violence, or just asking for a change in Australian Law? Though I strongly disagree with his views he should be allowed freedom to express them in a free society.
Memories of Kurt Wilders ban from entering the UK to talk to MPs about Islam.

  2. Laura Roberts says:

An appropriate precaution by the Australian government. Operation Rescue has incited terrorist acts (arson, bombings, assassinating doctors) in the U.S. for decades. Arguing against abortion should be protected free speech, but inciting anarchic violence is not and should not be allowed.

I did laugh out loud at his hyperbole: “I’m stuck in Denver airport like a man without a country.” Aww, poor baby, stuck in Denver for a few days in autumn. With the mountains and sunshine and fall colors. Must be awful.

Seems that his prayers are not working. Where is his God when he needs him? Where he usually is – nowhere.

“The Australian Government has revoked my visa in mid-flight.”

Shame that they didn’t do it in mid-flight and arrange for him to be dropped in the middle of the Pacific.

However he has tried to enter Australia illegally:-

  5. Infidel753 says:

His freedom of expression isn’t being interfered with. He’s only being refused entry into Australia. A country has no obligation to admit absolutely any foreign citizen who wants to enter, and all countries exclude various categories of people they consider undesirable.

  6. dennis says:

agreed TrickyDicky and Laura Roberts. yes, he has a right to talk stupidly. but does not have the right to say them on Australian soil. we can only hope fact reason and science will turn his heart warm to live humans in America.

  7. L.Long says:

Well you xtian dimwit it is because MURDER has a definite definition! And if you call killing off a few cells that COULD lead to a human murder then I think the appropriate punishment for masturbation is to have you balls cut off for the crime of murder!

  8. So What! says:

Way to go Australia. He is a verminous fundamentalist loon… And probably a good candidate for being on the No Fly Blacklist. And hey Troy each your heart out that the odious Kim Davies got to meet the pope. No no no … Frankie did not want you to join in to make up a threesome at their anti gay love fest. Get over it loser.

Hey! You sent us Old Hambone, we were just trying to return the favor!!

  10. Robster says:

L Long, Australia hangs its head in shame and apologises profusely, the departure of Ham was part of a program to increase the national IQ, it worked the moment he left. The good thing is, that New Zealander, Ray Comfort is even worse!

  11. Hey there's a skid mark says:

Now look at all the coverage this evil creature is getting … BBC hang your head in shame for giving this space. We know the BBC has a papal agendum … It’s disgraceful that such an insignificant case gets exposure.

  12. Maggie says:

If a man opposes abortion, I suggest he never seeks one.
