Top US Evangelist Franklin Graham quits Republican Party

A pre-Yuletide budget approved by the US Congress effectively kicked the anti-abortion lobby into the long grass, much to the disgust of Franklin Graham who promptly announced that the Republicans would no longer enjoy his support.

Anti-abortionists, according to this report, had fervently prayed that funding for sex education and family planning would be axed.

Didn’t happen.

First, the Democrats stood fast with reproductive rights groups. Second, Republicans heeded the polls –attacks on Planned Parenthood are political losers. Fully 60 percent of those polled wanted no cuts in Planned Parenthood’s funding.

Graham took to Facebook to vent his fury:

Shame on the Republicans and the Democrats for passing such a wasteful spending bill last week. And to top it off, funding Planned Parenthood!

A Huffington Post article called it ‘a big win for Planned Parenthood’. I call it a big loss for America. After all of the appalling facts revealed this year about Planned Parenthood, our representatives in Washington had a chance to put a stop to this, but they didn’t. There’s no question – taxpayers should not be paying for abortions! Abortion is murder in God’s eyes.

Seeing and hearing Planned Parenthood talk nonchalantly about selling baby parts from aborted fetuses with utter disregard for human life is reminiscent of Joseph Mengele and the Nazi concentration camps! That should’ve been all that was needed to turn off the faucet for their funding. Nothing was done to trim this 2,000 page, $1.1 trillion budget.

This is an example of why I have resigned from the Republican Party and declared myself Independent. I have no hope in the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or Tea Party to do what is best for America.

Unless more godly men and women get in this process and change this wicked system, our country is in for trouble. I want to challenge Christians, even pastors, across the country to pray about running for office where they can have an impact. We need mayors, country commissioners, city council members, school board members who will uphold biblical values.

Writing for Salon, Sean Illing said:

‘The appalling facts revealed this year about Planned Parenthood’ weren’t facts. Graham is referring to the leaked Planned Parenthood videos suggesting that the organization was pawning baby parts on the black market. As everyone now knows, those videos were deliberately edited and part of a massive anti-abortion propaganda campaign.

His daddy never revealed his political preferences – and wisely so. The nicest thing that you can say about this loudmouthed bully is that he has no class!

I’m sure Reince is weeping to lose your support, Frankie. Go deliver your shoeboxes, filled by schoolkids with THEIR money, to make you look like some great humanitarian. We know what kind of cut you get from Samaritan’s Purse.
And no, Franklin, we do not need more Cruz’ and Santorum’s in our legislatures. We need real moral people who care about others..and I don;t care if they are atheists, Buddhists, Jews, or real Christians. That does not matter.
Oh, and if God considers abortion murder, just where is that in the Bible? Seems to me God approved of a lot of murders in those books, mostly women. Are you in with that too?

There sure are lots of bats in that particular belfry.

Maybe no quite so many in Justin Welby’s – but not far off. Apparently, In our world today extremists talk of coming apocalypse: it’s already happened – in newborn Jesus, God radically reimagined the world.

Strange. I thought god was supposed to have ‘imagined’ the world in the first place. Perhaps he wasn’t too happy with his prototype stab at it.

Wait, are you saying that fervent prayer is ineffective?

“I think many a Christian who’s been driven from their home, who’s seen family members killed, who knows of relatives who are in great distress, will draw great comfort from this feast and from the knowledge that their plight is being talked about throughout the world,” he said.

This religious platitude from Vincent Nichols, RC top dog. He could apply the same sentiments to the thousands of children who have been sexually abused by RC priests. The BBC reports the religious guff from the various religious leaders quite seriously.

“Abortion is murder in God’s eyes.”

The problem is not that murder is wrong, but that God wants a monopoly on murder. God has a proven record of terminating pregnancies.

“The priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell. And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. […] And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.” – Numbers 5:21-21, 27-28

God loves abortion, but only when He does it.

Yet another religiot who claims to know the mind of his deity. You know, the same deity who apparently moves in such mysterious ways that we cannot know his mind. The same deity who apparently created us so perfectly that 20% of all pregnancies end in aborted foetuses.

OTOH anything that fragments the far-right vote can only be good for the country.

  12. Laura Roberts says:

@sailor1031: if only. Graham is engaged in typical empty posturing to try and drive his party even farther to the right. When November 2016 rolls around, you can bet your last red cent he’ll vote GOP down the line. In the meantime, I’ll bet his checkbook doesn’t get a week’s rest before he’s investing in one or another of the GOP candidates.
