Boy, 15, mutilates himself for accidental act of blasphemy

People in a village 125 kilometres from Lahore in Pakistan reportedly showed their approval of a teenager who severed one of his hands because he thought he was guilty of blasphemy.

According to this report, Mohammad Anwar mutilated himself because he’d misheard a question posed by an imam in a mosque in a village in the Hujra Shah Muqeem district.

Local police chief Nausher Ahmed described how the imam told a gathering that those who love the Prophet Mohammad always say their prayers, then asked who among the crowd had stopped praying.

Anwar raised one hand by mistake after apparently mishearing the question.

The crowd swiftly accused him of blasphemy so he went to his house and cut off the hand he had raised, put it on a plate, and presented it to the cleric, the police chief said.

Ahmed said that he has seen a video in which the boy is is proudly lauded by villagers in the street, including his parents.

The officer said that, as no complaint has been made, there would be no investigation into the incident.

    Group psychosis is a word.

  2. Broga says:

Another victim of the foul nonsense that is religion. So, the boy now has to spend the rest of his life minus a hand.

  3. David Anderson says:

Toughing though that all the villagers and his parents gave him a big hand.

How to be a good mufti / imam
You blasphemer ..go cut off your hand.
He is gay … go and throw him off a high building and drag his body through the streets
She was raped … go and stone her and set fire to her body
He is a blasphemer … cut off his head an impale it on a stake in the town square
He is a infidel spy … make him kneel on the ground and shoot him trough the back of the head.
Your mother said thevUSA kuffars will defaeat us … go and execute her.
She was seen alone with a man … go and stone her
She showed her face in public … thrash her back until she bleeds
He is an atheist blogger … go and hack him to death in the street.
She refused arranged marriage … go arrest her, gang rape her then force her family to stone her to death.
Go to Paris … and gun down hundreds of civilians

Meanwhile, that shithole of a country has decided not to ban child marriages because Islam approves of paedophila and hebephilia.

Regrettably, it is what we all expect from a poor ignorant boy living in a poor ignorant country. Recently, religious extremists murdered Pakistan health workers trying to eradicate the last strains of polio on planet Earth. Stories like these illustrate just how much further there is to go before the forces of human ignorance, folly and stupidity are fully and finally overcome.

Have you noticed that Islamists are never devout enough to cut off the hand that feeds them though?

  8. Trevor Blake says:

The Quran says “As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah” (5:38). The boy had committed a mistake, as he was not a thief. The religion of peace has a different punishment for blasphemy: “Accursed, they will be seized wherever found and slain with a (fierce) slaughter” (33:61).

I would like Islam to be abandoned by all human beings forever.

    Sadly, it’s not only Muslims:

There are other similar cases as well, and, of course, the idiots who are “crucified” every Good Friday in various locations. Not all are certifiably insane, and I actually empathize with this young guy, because I did and said some pretty stupid things myself when under the emotional influence of religion. Anything is possible.

They really do that stuff, too.
It’s just horrible to see it all laid out so plainly like that, but you’ve described it very well.

    @Barry Duke:
Did you consider that this whole thing might be a hoax?

The Japanese Empire made a national hero out of a late 19th century army officer who committed sepuku after a slip of the tongue in the daily reading aloud of some standard army regulations. I don’t recall his name, but I believe they may have made a holiday of the event.

This story (true or not) would be splendid included in the Book (any of them). The lad’s action vividly grasps the essence of faith! Lifelong respect seems sure, and the expectation of eternal heaven.

  14. John says:

Some of the comments made here are clearly ironical, with some of them querying if the actual story is not a hoax? This could also be linked to the use of an artificial hand in the picture accompanying the article.
In a country from where we receive credible reports of people being murdered for allegedly “defiling” a copy of the Koran and where people get murdered for being the “wrong” kind of Muslim – or for being an alleged “apostate” – it is easy for credibility to be lent to such an account.
Given where Pakistan finds itself today, it must be hard to comprehend that it started out as a secular state in 1947 – but became an Islamic Republic after 1956 – since when religious extremism has become a routine way of life to the great misfortune of a number of poor people living within their jurisdiction.

This story was very widely reported both in Pakistan and elsewhere, but most, if not all, of the accounts referred back to the original AFP report. It is, however, quite believable, and no corrections seem to appear anywhere to date. AFP is usually reliable.
