Watch a safe driving champion preach … while driving a truck

Back in 2013 Arkansas State Senator Jason Rapert, above, successfully sponsored a bill which made it an offence for people to drive while suffering from sleep deprivation. It called for drivers to be charged with negligent homicide if they caused a fatal accident after not sleeping for the previous 24 hours.

But Rapert apparently sees no danger in preaching to a camera while driving.

According to Hermant Mehta, when Rapert makes an appearance on the Friendly Atheist site:

It’s never for anything good. He has threatened to shoot constituents who ask him questions, fought for a Ten Commandments monument on Capitol grounds, and blamed ‘godless secular humanists’ for Target’s trans-inclusive bathroom policies.

Well, Rapert made another appearance on the site this week after he posted an 18-minute video on Facebook in which he railed against gay marriage, transgender folk using toilets and abortion. He was driving home from Illinois in his King Ranch Ford truck, “running on American energy”, returning, he says, from a preaching gig at the New City Community Church.

The woman who alerted Mehta to the video says that she watched the entire thing and did the math:

He looked at the camera 254 times. In 18:26 minutes, that means he looked every 4.354 seconds … some of those times it was for a couple seconds at a time.
I guess we should be grateful he didn’t kill anyone while staring at the camera …?

Said Mehta:

He quickly deleted the video, perhaps grasping the irony that a politician who fought against dangerous drivers is doing something equally dangerous. But not before someone captured the video and re-uploaded it onto YouTube.

But don’t forget that if you’re a Christian Jesus has control of the vehicle, so nothing can happen to you:

As they say: “Let go and let God”!

  3. Broga says:

@barriejohn: I suppose when this nutter kills somebody that will mean he hasn’t been praying adequately.

Broga: How about the following for absolute, unadulterated bullshit?

One of the writer’s boys said: “Maybe God allowed the accident to happen so that we can get a new car”, and he’s taking it seriously. Reminds me of a Christian family in our church who had a very dodgy old Reliant car that *mysteriously* caught fire one day. The youngest boy said: “Now we can get a new car”, and no one else said anything! Isn’t God wonderful?

Talking about bullshit; disappointing to see Sir David Attenborough on BBC News, reading a load of religious tripe at the service celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday. I thought he was above that sort of thing. Of course, according to Welby, she has God to thank for everything, so it must be true.

A year or two ago I watched a documentary about a dangerous mountain road in India along which dozens of drivers are killed every year. The reason they are killed is that they don’t even put their headlights on at night because they believe everything is pre-ordained, so if god wants them to live or die on that road then there’s absolutely nothing they can do to alter that. It beggars belief – pardon the pun. (Sorry, I can’t seem to find that documentary now, so no link I’m afraid.)

AgentC that’s because they believe in reincarnation so they’ll come back as something else.
So it’s ok as they have multiple lives.

  9. Trevor Blake says:

“And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.” – Judges 1:19

God can’t do much about those chariots of iron.

  10. Peterat says:

Trevor Blake: Imagine what god could have done if he had had a King Ranch available!? No telling what mayhem could have ensued.

  11. 1859 says:

I gave up. The moment he opened his mouth I knew what I would be in for if I continued. He may be able to drive straight, but he has jesus so far up his anus he can’t think straight. Best avoided.
