New Zealand Muslim preacher sacked over hate sermons

Shaykh Dr Mohammad Anwar Sahib, above, has been permanently stood down by New Zealand’s Federation of Islamic Associations following video evidence of his virulent anti-Semitism.

The Federation is reported here as saying that it vehemently opposes all teachings that promote intolerance, prejudice and discrimination. Sahib was the Federation’s secretary.

New Zealand’s Human Rights Commission earlier said speeches allegedly given by Sahib were appalling and had no place in the country.

Said Race Relations Commissioner Dame Susan Devoy:

We live in one of the most ethnically diverse nations on Earth as well as one of the most peaceful: this is because we are a tolerant nation.

This kind of intolerance is not welcome here in any form: prejudice against Jewish people has no place in New Zealand.

Videos of speeches delivered by Sahib, President of the At Taqwa Mosque in Manukau, have been widely viewed online.

Sahib did what most hate preachers do when they are rumbled: he complained that his words were “taken out of context” and claimed that he preaches for peace and harmony in society.

He said he had been misrepresented as a scholar of Islam and his lectures, if watched in their entirety, would show he was simply discussing history.

Sadly and falsely, I have been accused of giving hate speeches and being anti-Semitic. I wish to make it absolutely clear that I do not hate any human being regardless of their faith, place of origin, race, colour and political affiliation.

In this report, he claimed to be the victim of a “cut-and-paste” attack by a blogger.

This slander and attack is not just on me, but it is on all Muslims in New Zealand. Sadly, it is at a time when there is so much misrepresentation about Muslims in the media and this unfortunate attack is perpetuating this.

And he wants an apology.

But Shalom Kiwi revealed that in a “shocking” video containing excerpts of a number of Auckland sermons and lectures given by Sahib between April 2014 and November 2016 he repeatedly uses appalling anti-Semitic slanders and libels and denigrates women. In one sermon, he calmly calls Jews “the enemy of Muslims” and claims that:

Jews are using everybody because their protocol is to rule the entire world.

The website added:

Like his views on Jews, Dr Sahib also shares views on women’s rights that are out of step with New Zealand values. In one sermon, he proclaims that ‘no woman can dare step out of her house without the permission of her husband’.

Fiji-born Dr Sahib was trained in Saudi Arabia, receiving a PhD in Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Studies from Madinah University.

abdulrahman-alsudais

In 2013, as New Zealand’s only Salafi preacher at the time, he led prayers at an Australian conference, which had invited other like-minded speakers such as the imam at the Great Mosque in Mecca, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Al-Sudais, above, who said:

Read history and you will understand that the Jews of yesterday are the evil fathers of the Jews of today, who are evil offspring, infidels … the scum of the human race whom Allah cursed and turned into apes and pigs… These are the Jews, an ongoing continuum of deceit, obstinacy, licentiousness, evil, and corruption …

The Administration Council of the Islamic Women’s Council described Sahib’s comments as:

Totally inappropriate. We unequivocally condemn any divisive comments of a similar nature. While we may disagree with aspects of Jewish theology, and may have political disagreements, we see the Jewish people as closely connected to us through the Abrahamic tradition.

The Prophet Muhammad had good relationships with his Jewish neighbours and encouraged Muslims to do the same. We are permitted to eat their kosher food, and we offer them our respect. We regularly extend our hand in friendship to the Jewish community in New Zealand, and will continue to do so.

Representatives of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in New Zealand have said they strongly condemn any anti-Semitic hate speech, and say any Muslim cleric who expresses hate-filled views about other faiths or their followers must be condemned.

Said community president Bashir Khan:

Islam teaches respect, tolerance and love for all people regardless of faith, colour or background. The Prophet Muhammad championed the protection of other faiths and their rights to practice their belief.

I never like it when people try to limit their sympathy and love to their own people. I admonish you again and again to never ever limit the scope of your compassion.

Yeah, Old Mo was a real pal:

Q8:12 I give firmness to the Believers: I will instil terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them.

    Whole lotta smitin’ goin’ on…

‘This slander and attack is not just on me, but it is on all Muslims in New Zealand.’

That’s right, start stirring it up in the hope of a violent backlash by ‘offended’ muslims across NZ.

  3. Laura Roberts says:

Nothing shouts “diploma mill” quite like a place that confers a “PhD” in “Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Studies”. I’m willing to bet this arse-hat refers to himself as “Doctor” everywhere he goes…

  4. Raul Miller says:

Qur’anic Sciences? WTH is that? Only slightly less rigorous or prestigious as the “Science” of phrenology I suppose.

Umm, the Islamic Women’s Council and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community would appear to disagree with you old chap. Still, I suppose small things like actual evidence aren’t important when you’re trying to stir up a shit-storm.

” I wish to make it absolutely clear that I do not hate any human being regardless of their faith, place of origin, race, colour and political affiliation.” He has a serious communication problem. I think atheists would put him severely to the test.

I say one thing but mean another. I mean one thing but say another. Everyone is a sinner and my brother. I love everyone – no exceptions – except those I hate. And I hate everyone – no exceptions – except those I love. I spread peace and love with bombs and swords. I prevent war and hate with swords and bombs. Doublespeak, doublespeak, doublespeak ….pipsqueak…

Haven’t I heard that of another religion?

Does this sound worryingly familiar to anyone?

  10. Robster says:

” PhD in Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Studies from Madinah University”Wha?, That must have taken about 10 minutes to “achieve”. What an odious pile of nonsense.

  11. Nutter Quick Response Team says:

He only saying in public what the all muslims say to themselves inside their heads and to each other in private. It’s what their big bad book tells them. To quietly hate until they have outbred the kuffar population of the host country … then when strong rise up and disrupt beggar and take over by force of numbers.

  12. Brian Jordan says:

    @ Robster,
I suppose that degree might alternatively be designated “D.Div. in God-searching in dusty tomes”. Could take a lifetime – or forever – to succeed.

I don’t like anti-hate speech laws, I like my bigots loud enough to know who they are and what their religion really stands for. Look at all the nice polite xtians that stab you in the back at the voting areas. Religious moderates=cowardly hypocrites. Extremists are what they are when given power. So I like them loud so I know where they are.
