Prayers sought for ex-pastor involved in murder-suicide

Prayers sought for ex-pastor involved in murder-suicide

Daniel Randall, 56, above, a former pastor the First Congregational Church in Bristol, Rhode Island, this week shot his daughter dead then committed suicide.

According to this report, Randall barged into the home of his estranged wife with a shotgun and fatally shot his daughter Claire multiple times before killing himself. Before committing suicide, Randall spray-painted messages on the walls in five rooms of the house. One of the things he wrote was “vow breaker.”

The pastor and his estranged wife Anita, who was not in the house when the crime was committed, were reportedly on the brink of a divorce.

He served as a pastor for First Congregational Church for 12 years before resigning in December 2014.

When Zachariah Smith, a former parishioner in Daniel’s church, heard of the news, he was shocked because the crime did not reflect the man he once knew. He said:

My former pastor and dear, dear friend, for some awful and unknown reason, took his own life today. What’s worse is he took his daughter’s life as well. I can only imagine the anguish and self-loathing he was going through to make such a rash decision. That was not the man I knew and loved. He became sick, and a whole bunch of us missed it.

Please, please pray for the Randalls and for the community of the First Congregational Church of Bristol RI. Please to the faithful, add the Randall’s to every prayer chain possible.

Daniel left Liberty Bay Recovery Center in Portland, where he was treated for alcolism, on Thursday around 10 am, then purchased a shotgun, drove home and killed his daughter just before 2 pm.

A neighbour, Carroll Daggett, 71, first discovered the bodies after Anita called her to check up on Claire because she was not answering her phone. When Daggett saw Claire’s lifeless body on the floor, he told Anita to drive home immediately.

Daggett, an Army veteran, did not suspect Daniel capable of the crime he committed.

He seemed to be a very pleasant person. A sort of take-charge, family-type person.

It’s reported here that Claire Randall, above, and the man identified by friends as her boyfriend, Gabe Gordon, both volunteered as programme associates for Resonant Motion, a New York organization dedicated to deepening the connections between music and social causes.

Claire was a vocalist and songwriter, according to her profile on the organization’s website, which states:

She envisions music as a force that provides reinforcing support to individuals, communities, and movements. It is her hope that positive creative energy will aid in the upheaval of hatred and ignorance and their corresponding social implications.

Claire’s professional passions lie in social services and education, specifically in relation to domestic violence prevention and substance abuse treatment programmes.

In a statement, her friends said Claire was:

A natural-born singer and performer. Watching her on stage was like an out of body experience – entirely transcendent.

Ironic or what?: ‘Claire’s professional passions lie in social services and education, specifically in relation to domestic violence prevention and substance abuse treatment programmes.’
She obviously understood her own father to be a bully and a drunk.
He killed her to spite his own wife and killed himself because he didn’t have the guts to serve a life-time sentence in prison or be executed.
The truth is he was the kind of asshole religion always attracts, as it provides opportunities for lying, cheating, manipulating, controlling, coercing, abusing pieces of shit like him to get away with their appalling conduct.
Instead of calling for prayers, Zachariah Smith – a former parishioner in Daniel’s church – should express relief such a vile specimen is no longer alive.
If anyone should be remembered,it should be his wife and late daughter, who were far more decent than he could ever have been in a dozen lifetimes.

  2. Broga says:

“Please pray for him.” The usual whine when there is a death or behaviour so appalling that it defies excuse. The prayer is, of course, the product of an empty, pointless, self obsessed delusion that a speck of a biological organism can be heard and responded to by the imagined creator and ruler of the cosmos.

  3. Angela_K says:

Mental instability + religion = death. Prayer? So the religious morons at his church are going to forgive him?

  4. John the Drunkard says:

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the victim-blaming to start.

It looks like there is another problem there as well.
