North Carolina pastor arrested over nine armed robberies

North Carolina pastor John Thomas Lindsey, above, was arrested yesterday in connection with a spate of armed robberies.

According to this report, Lindsey, a pastor at True Love Church of Refuge in Charlotte, was charged with nine counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, nine counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police say that Lindsey robbed the Family Dollar store in Northwest Charlotte and fired a shot while inside. He is also charged in connection with robberies from two 7- Eleven stores, two Sam’s Mart stores, and four Circle Ks.

The sorrowful church said on Facebook:

We, the leadership and membership of True Love Church of Refuge, are deeply saddened and disappointed that our leader and brother, John Thomas Lindsey, is facing charges associated with criminal activity.

Though we denounce any involvement he may have had, we love him and will continue to pray for him. The ministry will continue to stand strong despite the latest allegations and will continue to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom.

Said one local:

It’s something you wouldn’t expect from somebody supposedly a religious person.

Court records reportedly show Lindsey had previously been convicted twice for drug charges in the 1990s.

Lindsey is one of two men charged in connection with the robberies. The other is Fernando Carillo-Hernandez, 24, who was also charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and three counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Carillo-Hernandez does not appear to be affiliated with a church.

You bet – I would have expected him to be sexually assaulting the children in his congregation:

    Welcome to free thought.

“and will continue to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom.”

Doesn’t seem to be doing a hell of a lot of good.

Broga: Where is your logic? “Just think how much worse the situation would be WITHOUT the Gospel!”

(Also applicable to “alternative medicine”, etc.)

I’m surprised this crook didn’t claim that his god told him to do it.

“It’s something you wouldn’t expect from somebody supposedly a religious person.” How many times do we hear this?

John Thomas Lindsey = J. Dishonest Holyman

  7. AgentCormac says:

Is that the aforementioned ‘dangerous weapon’ that he’s brandishing over his head?

Well, isn’t that the kind of behaviour you would expect from an unbeliever? I must point out that this is all pre-trial so it would be fair not to judge. We should all pray for the pastor and not-pray for the benighted infidel.

As all have correctly pointed out this is exactly the type of behaviour we expect from allegedly religious people.

It’s sad that in this day and age, people still get hoodwinked by the religious = good mentality.

No tonye, I evaluate all religious people as lying and criminal until they show they are better than their ahole religion. So far I have never been disappointed and on a few occasions pleasantly surprised.

  11. I was once assaulted by a Pastor’s dangerous weapon in a True Love Refuge, and have been bow-legged ever since.

  12. His congregation would be wise to investigate whether Pastor Lindsay (or Brother Lee Love as his butt buddies will no doubt refer to him once he’s been banged up) has been fiddling the collection boxes. Having observed that phallic symbol clenched longingly in his paw, I regard the Pastor as being capable of just about anything, no matter how iniquitous it may be.

  13. Broga says:

“True Love Church of Refuge .” Great names they have for these churches. The victims of his nine armed robberies are those who need refuge. Perhaps in the “True Love Church of Refuge” now that Pastor Lindsey seems to be headed for the slammer.

  14. The religious paraphernalia scattered about the pulpit is in execrable bad taste. The monstrosity fixed to the wall resembles a bog-roll container. The flowers (probably fake) look cheap and nasty. The candle-holder is fit only for a ten-dimes-a-pop brothel. No doubt Pastor Lindsay used his congregation’s donations to purchase this cheap rubbish, and pocketed the remaining cash himself.

Amazingly, they haven’t updated their internet information. Like most of the charismatics, they suffer from a form of verbal diarrhoea, and those stock phrases – kingdom, anointing, powerful, spirit-filled, prophetic – figure prominently, as per usual:

Apostle John and Prophet Delisa Lindsey are a Kingdom aged Aquilla and Priscilla apostolic team. Together they founded, True Love Church of Refuge, one of Charlotte, North Carolina’s authentic apostolic and prophetic training centers. They labor tirelessly day and night in travail for their people, prophesying over them, equipping them, and pushing them to their next level of greatness in God. They both share a passion for their city and region as two of the area’s gatekeepers functioning as one. Along with other area apostolic leaders, they open the spiritual matrix of the city to the nation’s leading apostolic and prophetic voices to leave spiritual imprints within the region that will shape the apostolic mandate of Charlotte and its immediate surrounding areas for years to come.

    Does that actually MEAN anything?

PS I see that Prophet Delisa has set up her own publishing company, so they shouldn’t want for too much materially while Non-Profit John is inside!

Well you know, he commits larceny every Sunday with the donation plate; might as well take it to the next level. 😉

  17. If there was any lead lining the True Love Church roof, it will no doubt have disappeared by now. Judging by the Pastor’s ample girth, he himself may well have swallowed it.

  18. AgentCormac says:

What on earth makes it ‘authentic’?

  19. Raul Miller says:

I believe “authentic” means awash in self-delusion and hypocrisy.

  20. Delisa? It sounds like the type of name that would be used only by a Lady of the Night, or a common street-walker. Delisa, can shove her apostolic prophecies where the sun don’t shine.

AgentCormac: I think it might have something to do with this “prophetic dancing” business (Minister Shemeaka Holloway).

Do they have an “America’s Got Talent”?

PS On another video they show an elaborate coat of arms thingy, with “Matthews 16:18” emblazoned on it, I kid you not. Are they really that ignorant?

‘Your ‘onour! I was obeyin’ the True Lord’s Command! I was a robbin’ the rich to give to the poor! It don’t matter it was a Two Dollar Shop! It helped buy me a new pair o’britches to cover my naked ass!…’

  24. John says:

    He’ll beat the rap.
All he has to say to the judge is “The Lord helps those who help themselves”.
“I just helped myself – to other people’s money”.
    “I obeyed the Lord”.
    “What is wrong with that?”
    Good American values !!!!
