Christian rock singer faces prison for child porn possession

Mark Salling, above, a former Christian rock musician and star of the television series Glee has pleaded guilty to possessing more than 50,000 images of child pornography.

In 2008, Salling, who recorded under the stage name “Jericho”, recorded a Christian album entitled Smoke Signals under Jericho Records. Salling is likely to be sentenced to prison for a period of four to seven years.

Various sites describe his Christian rock period as “mediocre” as if the genre could possibly be anything else. Here’s a sample of his work.

In December 2015, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force arrested Salling for possessing child pornography. Authorities were tipped about Salling’s alleged possession of child porn from an ex-girlfriend.

TMZ reported in 2015:

Salling’s computer not only contained pics of underage children in sexual scenes, some of the children were under 10 years of age.

On May 27, 2016, he was charged with receiving and possessing child pornography. As a result of the charges, Salling was removed from the cast of Adi Shankar’s Gods and Secrets. After several postponements and failed negotiations with prosecutors, his trial began on September 12, 2017, in the US District Court in Los Angeles. On October 4, 2017, he pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

Salling had previously had legal trouble stemming from a sexual battery charge back in 2011. An ex-girlfriend alleged he had unprotected sex with her despite her request he use a condom, and he was eventually ordered to pay $2.7 million, according to the terms of a settlement agreement he entered into in order to resolve the case. He said at the time:

You hear about fraudulent lawsuits all the time. Until it happens to you, you really don’t grasp what it does, not to just you, but to your family … You just have to stay positive, and I personally have a relationship with Jesus Christ and I count on that myself.

In this report, Joseph Macias, a special agent for Homeland Security Investigations, is quoted as saying:

The traditional stereotype about the kinds of people who commit child sexual exploitation crimes simply doesn’t dovetail with reality. As our investigators can attest, the defendants in child pornography cases come in all ages and from all walks of life.

Macias said he hopes the case serves as a warning that those involved in online sexual exploitation of children will be prosecuted regardless of their position.

US Attorney Eileen M. Decker added:

Those who download and possess child pornography create a market that causes more children to be harmed. Young victims are harmed every time an image is generated, every time it is distributed, and every time it is viewed.

He seems a reckless, arrogant man careless of others well being and ready to exploit them. But why would he want 50,000 images of child pornography? How does anyone collect that many images and why?

” I personally have a relationship with Jesus Christ and I count on that myself” His reliance on Jesus has not helped. What will that lead him to conclude?

  2. 1859 says:

If he was such a devotee of Jesus, then you would expect him to have 50,000 images of his saviour. I wonder how in his mind he squares his vast library of child porn with his Christian beliefs? He’ll probably blame Satan for leading him astray.

Forgive me for being somewhat crude here, but I can understand how a lonely, sexually frustrated adult can get excited by images of adult porn online or in magazines etc., but an adult getting turns on by sex acts involving children? That I don’t understand. Has it got something to do with power? With sadistic cruelty? The psychology of it defeats me.

I remember reading some time ago that a prime use that MPs made of their tax funded computers was watching pornography. Presumably that was when they were assumed to be working. I would think that celibate priests would be heavy users of pornography.

Interesting, isn’t it, that our leaders and moral arbiters are the very people immersed in what they are opposing? We see this on this site when we hear that some of the most bombastic opponents of gay relationships are those who are covertly involved in these relationships themselves.

Shitehawks like this come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. But they all need one thing. They all need the camouflage of wholesomess and trust. And until recently what better disguise than that of being a christian. Call yourself Reverend and there is nothing you can’t get away with

There was some stuff a while back with internet companies noting that area by area in America one of the biggest porn watchers were the Bible Belt.

I will see if I can find the details as it was quite interesting and as the figures were produced by the companies who provide home internet they were probably quite reliable.

Stephen Mynett: We did look at PornHub’s figures here before. It’s a very big site, and provides online porn videos of all kinds, so probably gives a fairly accurate picture. They like Teen Porn in Arkansas!

  8. Broga says:

So, what we have are armies of self righteous, punitive, hectoring, holier than thou hypocrites who are more enthusiastic about using porn than those they are criticising.

Broga: The porn industry in America is huge. SOMEONE must be buying it!
