Dear reader,
I'm writing to introduce myself as the new editor of the Freethinker. First of all, I want to thank Barry Duke, my predecessor in the role since 1998, for his 24 years of service. Barry has moved to a new blog at OnlySky.
Over the next few weeks, I will be working in consultation with G.W. Foote & Co. to relaunch the Freethinker and give it a new image and direction. The motto of 'liberty, reason, humanity' indicates the positive principles which will underlie this approach. At the same time we will continue with the tradition of fearless but intelligent free speech, and satire on religion where satire is due. This tradition goes right back to the magazine's foundation by G.W. Foote in 1881.
We will also be reviewing how we advertise events of interest to our readers, and how we can fund the Freethinker on an ongoing basis.
Prior to taking on this role, I produced podcasts for the National Secular Society. I have also written for the New Humanist, Spectator, Literary Review, and elsewhere.
I shall be writing again soon with further details of the relaunch, which is planned for late February. In the meantime, if you have any questions, or suggestions for topics you'd like to see covered in the future, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best wishes,
Emma Park
