Submissions
If you are able to write with intelligence and clarity, as well as bite and wit, on a topic which is relevant to our interests, you are welcome to send us a pitch or a submission by emailing us: editor@freethinker.co.uk. Please consult our style guide before writing. We also accept submissions of fiction, satire, and poetry.
We offer a flat rate of £75 for what we publish, though a higher rate can be negotiated in certain cases (e.g., very long, labour-intensive pieces and journalistic/investigative pieces). As we are a small independent journal with a limited budget, however, we do ask that you waive the fee if you can afford to; please confirm if you would like to do this when getting in touch. Otherwise, it is best if you have a UK bank account or a PayPal account for us to send payment to, or we might have to deduct international transfer fees from your payment. We aim to send payment within 30 days of receiving your invoice.
Please note that only very rarely will we consider material previously published elsewhere for publication in the Freethinker and that we will only offer payment for original submissions. Note that the editor’s decisions about edits, what to include/exclude, etc., are final. Contributors are allowed to republish their own content three months after original publication, on the condition that the Freethinker is credited and a link to the original piece as published by us is included. Please note that the Freethinker retains non-exclusive rights to the content (even if contributors republish per the above) and can republish it as it sees fit.
